Trauma and Stress

Hey guys,

I had to chuckle. I m taking a course on Critical Incident Stress and

Trauma Management. The text I was reading today casually said, some of

you may have even experienced trauma yourselves.

Pause

BwahahahahahahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

Interesting course though. I ll be setting up a Critical Incident and

Trauma response team after we complete training. KO s should be the

ideal people for that. After all, trauma was our life!

But the statement gave me a giggle. So how about you guys? Ever

experienced any trauma?

Pause

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Wipes a tear. Oh my.

Yeah, with KOs, maybe a more appropriate question is:

" Ever experienced a lull in trauma? "

If the course you're describing is anything like " Emergency Preparedness

Training " , I was so all over that when the company I used to work for decided to

pull out all the stops and get into Emergency Preparedness big time. I think

you're right, and KOs have special previous training and experience in trauma

and injury situations.

lol Doug, your post made me chuckle =)

I think you're right, we've been training all our lives to deal with

emergencies & trauma. Maybe that's why I want to work ER some day!

The class does sound interesting though. I'd like to learn more about it.

Good luck Doug! (I almost typed Dough again haha).

Doug - OMG. You know how ready.gov is urging everybody to have a 3-day

emergency kit? I'm good for a full week. My prime request for a new house (if

we ever get to move from here) is a tornado shelter. My bathroom first aid kit

is a thing of wonder. And it's not just because we're a Scouting family. I

have spent my life " being prepared. "

Never connected it with Nada until now...

Nope. Not A Dose or Any (hey - that's NADA!)

Ok... stupid joke.

Anyway... I hadn't realized how PREPARED FOR THE END OF THE WORLD I was til last

week when teen and I were talking (or rather teen was talking and I was trying

- GodBlessHim - to follow) and he said, " In the event of a Zombie Apocolypse... "

(teen's latest tangent) and then went on about cooking, fire, water, hiking,

survival stuff. I chimed in with 'how to's' on all teen's questions/statements.

Then teen looked at me and said, " well... I'm STICKING WITH YOU! Sure... you're

OLD but geez mom... is there ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION YOU CAN'T HANDLE???? "

Nope. And Yep.

Speaking of trauma....has anyone taken a look at complex ptsd?

Doug, I think I'll need to save your post for it's simplicity and the tears of

laughter it evokes! It was just a little bit of trauma from birth until

now-ish....
