Another child abuse case

Reporters in my area are doing investigative stories on another case.

Essentially, a young, Mormon-sounding couple got married very young and had

2 daughters. When the oldest daughter was age 4 they split up. The dad

stayed in Canada, the mom took the daughters back to Utah and stayed with a

couple who were friends.

A few weeks later, the 4 year old was dead. Essentially beaten so badly she

bleed to death from bruises. I knew the medical examiner who did the

autopsy. The mom and the man in the couple she stayed with are in prison.

Sex toys and an S and M video tape are in evidence.

I don't know what to say think or do about this. My mind is just blown. The

thing is, back when i was a muggle, I worked on the child fatality review

team. I had no idea I was abused too.

Who does this shit and how do they think it is okay? I'm reading and

reading and reading but I don't know where to put my feelings or how to

understand. Is it just that some people can't take responsability for

themselves?

Hugs.... I used to work in social services and came across this stuff all the

time... I didn't know I was abused either. About 5 years ago I started to

wonder if I had been. December 2007 I got my answer. The world hasn't looked

the same ever since.

I 'hear' you.

That is so incredibly sad; another innocent little life snuffed out, killed by

mentally ill and/or possibly alcohol-addled or drugged-up adults who are

supposedly her caregivers.

So, its the dead child's bio-mom whom they suspect of beating her to death, or

is it the man whose home she was staying in, or both?

To me, the bigger question is how is it that the WIFE of the guy whose home the

bio-mom and child were living in saw nothing and heard nothing?

How is it that this child's daddy abandoned her to the care of someone who was

likely to beat her to death, or allow her to be around those who were likely to

beat her to death?

Mentally ill people shouldn't be around children, let alone be given the

responsibility of raising them; so me personally, I place the larger share of

the blame on the non-mentally-ill spouses and/or family members.

So, so sad. I think part of the " reason " people do these things and think they

are " ok " is because what was done to them was often " so much worse. " As in,

" I've never threatened you with a gun or broken your nose like my father did to

me. You don't know what abuse IS! " Thanks for the insight, Nada. So glad to know

that as long as weaponry and broken bones aren't involved Im not being abused.

And I totally agree with Annie - the non-ill spouse is equally if not more to

blame. Of course, in my family I got a mentally ill parent as well as a

personality disordered one and I think that happens a lot. Anyway, poor poor

little baby. So very very tragic.

I struggle with this,

" How is it that this child's daddy abandoned her to the care of someone who was

likely to beat her to death, or allow her to be around those who were likely to

beat her to death?

EVERY SINGLE DAY!

And thank God every single day that step dad stepped up and in - regardless of

what Nada did to him pre/during/post marriage.... because bio dad was a chicken

and abandoned me. Permanently.

Oh Lynnette, it gets worse - the dad is still defending the mom to the hilt,

saying she and the family friend didn't do it and it was a blood disorder.
