Guest guest
I've seen others here post about how they know when something is off. I call it my radar. I think it comes from being a KO. But, because of being a KO, I can & do second guess myself. I play an online video game. The people I play with use a program that lets us voice chat with each other while we play which makes it easier for us to do things as a group in the game. There's this guy who's in our guild (group) who's been making my radar go off. The stories he tells are just tooooo unbelievable. He makes all kinds of outrageous claims and just comes off very arrogant. I've also caught him a couple of times in flat out lies because he'll say one thing one day, and something different another. Anyway, this one is really just not sitting right with me. Dude knows I'm a nursing student, but I think he's underestimating just how much even a lowly nursing student knows about human anatomy & physiology. But, that part of me that's ever so good at second guessing myself is doing just that! Maybe that's because I KNOW I do NOT know it all. Anyway... He told us his brother died. The brother is/was 25 years old and was going to give him a hug and just dropped dead. Ok, that's not impossible in the least... it's sad, but it happens. A little while later he said his phone was ringing and he was gone for a while. When he came back he said his brother wasn't dead. His first story was that he was at the hospital for 4.5 hours. After he found out his brother wasn't dead, it was only 2 hours. Being as empathetic as I could, I said, " That's such good news! But, what happened? " (Because how after 2 hours of being at the hospital would they not have known he wasn't dead? Yes, my brain was going " huh?! " ) Apparently, his bro was choking on a cough drop. It got lodged in his throat. It does NOT make sense at all. When people choke, the little part of our brain that keeps our bodies going doesn't just shut down the heart instantly from lack of oxygen. He claims they were defibrillating his bro for hours... also not very likely even if his heart did stop (key word; hours). And what the french, toast? You know when you see a movie and someone chokes and puts their hands up to their neck... guess what, that little part of the brain really works that way. Most people will do something like that. There is a window of time before one becomes unconscious from lack of oxygen... and before the heart would stop. I just don't get it. And I am racking my brain here. A lot of the people we play with in the game think he's full of sh**, not just me. But this one royally ticks me off. Is he just trying to play us for symapthy? He's very arrogant. Comes off as a know it all. Says he has things that don't exist in the game and has more money in-game than is feasibly possible on one character. When he starts in on these stories, someone usually changes the subject because we know he's full of it. But to lie about someone dying and then not being dead and under very odd conditions? I mean, I can't say. Maybe it was for sympathy or something, but I have NO idea. I just know that after talking to him for about 30 minutes before that phone call and again for about 30 after that it does NOT make sense. My brain is going, " Well, maybe he's just in shock. " Yet when I gently questioned him, he did say the same thing again... his brother " dropped dead " from choking on a cough drop.... was defibrillated for hours, etc. Sorry... but after years of living with my nada... I cannot stand a liar. And red flags are going up on this guy. I guess I'm just looking for someone to say " Ok, I think you're way off because <such & such> can happen when someone chokes " or " Yeah, sounds like a load of bull " . He also says he's been to 13 funerals in 2 months. I mean... I've known several people who have passed away in short periods of time, but 13?! He must know a whole lot of people.... Again, not an impossibility but 13 funerals in 2 months? Also says he has " Stage 4 PTSD " from having his " leg blown off and reattached " in the army where he was a " Ranger and sniper " . Again... not improbable. But the " stage 4 PTSD " thing? Uh... that one I can google. lol. Never heard of stage 4 PTSD. Again, it could be a real thing, but I'm just not sure. I'm supposed to listen to my gut... gut's saying it's bull. Brain's second guessing. This is SO not an important thing, really, but it's just seriously irking me! I don't like being taken advantage of, even if it is just my emotions or my empathy. And being a KO, man is it hard to tell if I should go with my gut or my brain. Input would be fabulous. Thanks all. Mia
Guest guest
He's probably 13. Or, the emotional equivalent of 13. If you've never met him in person, it could be either. He doesn't sound malicious, but he sounds socially inept and he's trying to make himself out to be a lot more interesting/worldly than he is with his wild and inconsistent stories. That " I know something about everything " thing is typical of a teen, also. Really annoying. If he starts becoming malicious and saying ugly, nasty things, maybe its time to find another " guild " , or, vote him out of your current guild. -Annie > > I've seen others here post about how they know when something is off. Guest guest
I'm guessing this is WoW--haven't played but have friends who do. And yes, he sounds emotionally like a 13 year old. Or maybe he is truly 13 and making up stories so people see him as a battle-hardened adult and take him more seriously. I second Annie's advice. The other option is to form a new guild with all your same guild members...but without that guy. I've heard of that happening before, too. Guest guest
Wow yes he is a liar. I used to dance with a girl like that. I was the only one that called her on the bull - and guess what. I got kicked out of the group for it. Dance meant the world to me, it was my life. This girl would come to class and then lay on the floor and hold her stomach. The teacher (they were having an affair) would go hold her hand and sit with her - in other words, I was paying the teacher to waste my time. And I could tell she was faking. Eventually I said, hey, if your sick maybe you should stay home so the rest of us can dance. . .And to the teacher I said, hey the rest of us are paying for the class - so if she's sick week after week, maybe you could just let her lay there until after class. It did NOT go over well. It was a dysfunctional system that I got involved in right after I went NC - I believe I was comfortable with dysfunction so I found a new dysfunctional family to replace my old one. Eventually I got voted off the island and it sent me into a downward spiral of suicidal thoughts. I'm sure this sounds weird. I've never talked about it before.Even now about 2 years later I avoid all kinds of performance art (because I end up running out crying) and I don't listen to music at all ever - because it all reminds me of dance and how much I miss performing and how destroyed I feel. Wow, I've had that bottled up in a shameful mess for years. Another similar situation. When I was dating my ex husband, he told me about a girl he was dating before he met me. I had met her and there was something VERY wrong with her - I couldn't exactly define it not being a psychologist. Anyway, this girl told him that she had some boyfriend attending Oxford in England. And then she " left " this guy for my ex. And then she became pregnant by my ex and had a traumatic miscarriage - all without proof. She used to show him the letters from the Oxford guy. Ummm I'm liek were they hand written? He's all no, typed. I'm like - so do you REALLY think some guy in England wrote these extremely girly sentiments to this girl about how if you don't date her he will and if you don't marry her he will etc? My ex - " Oh. " And then on the miscarriage - me " So, what evidence do you have that she was ever pregnant? " Him " she said she was. " Me - " Did you ever see a doctors' report? A home pregnancy test? An ER bill? " Him - " no. " Me " Then why do you think it ever happened? Does it jive with reality in any way? Was there a credible witness? " Him " change subject " So my job right now in therapy is learning to use my voice. My T says when I master it I will physically feel a lot better. So. . . I wonder if it might feel good for you to try your voice out? I have a masters in public health, and people come to me all the time with stories of health problems that make no sense whatsoever. My boss does it almost every week. Last week she went to instacare because she thought she was having a stroke. The woman just had a headache. She asked me about it a few days before " Do you think I'm having a stroke? " I started laughing. I couldn't help it. I know her and she PANICS over every minor thing. So anyway guess what - she wasn't having a stroke. I googled the symptoms too just to check before I mocked her behind her back and NOPE not one symptom made any sense. She needs treatment for an anxiety disorder, not for a stroke. Yeah, I'm sick of the stupid stories people tell me too!!!!!! Guest guest
Go with gut. My daughter has a guy in her guild that she is convinced is a serial killer. Who knows. Maybe he is? She also tells a story of one who uses the voice changer on the headset to pretend he is a woman and chat with men - luckily for her she doesn't actually know this guy, this story came to her via another guild member. Anyway, I would find this guy's claims pretty suspicious too, Mia. Sent from my blueberry. > I've seen others here post about how they know when something is off. I > call it my radar. Guest guest
Thanks guys. Like I said, none of this is really important, but my radar is just going off. Most of the people that I play the game with are adults, most are actually in their 40s or 50s and we have a few who are 15 - 18 who are just fine, don't cause drama or anything else & are fun to play the game with (Yes, it's WoW. I've played for 4 years, fiance for about 3). It does make me wonder if he has the potential to be vicious. Example: If we call him out, is he going to take what he can from the shared guild bank? Granted, he can't take much, but I think you get my point. Some people in the guild have jobs and are officers. My job as an officer is to keep the peace because none of us want drama, we're adults & just want to have fun and relax when we actually have time to play. The only time I've had to jump in and stop drama was with (guess who) this guy. As far as him being 13, maybe he is. Or, maybe he's just young or mentally young. Also, who hops on a video game after their brother dies or almost dies? Granted you MIGHT if you'd played with the same group of people for a long time, but this guy's only been around about 2 months or so. I do keep in touch with some people I played with for just about my whole time I've played the game. Some have quit, and there are other reasons I'm not in game with them right now. But a good example of the above is one group of friends who all know each other on the west coast. One guy's dad played. He was very sick, dying. When he did die, he did come into the game & tell us before logging right back out. Talk about sad and heartwrenching. His dad & I spent a lot of time in game together chit chatting and keeping each other company (this is when I was at the lowest point of my own depression & PTSD) so yes, I can see how it happens. I have no doubt in my mind that what was up with that group & my friend's dad (also my friend) was NOT a lie. But this guy... there goes my radar! Yes, it's wrong sometimes, but I don't think it is this time. Girlscout, your story about dance broke my heart too. I'm so so sorry that it ruined your whole dance experience. I hope that you will find a way to heal from it and get back into dance! Because you were right. If she was that ill, she should have stayed home and not impeded on everyone else's time they were paying for. I'm not sure that helps much, but maybe it is just a little bit of validation for you. Thanks again guys. Like I said, not important at all, but as a KO I find myself second guessing my gut. Guest guest
There's this saying " when you see crazy coming at you, cross the street " . When my LIAR radar goes off or CRAZY radar goes off, I just metaphorically cross the street. Unless the person sounds like their behavior may be dangerous to others, I don't see why I need to call them out on their bullshit, because usually it turns out that everyone knows they are full of it anyways, and you can't reason with crazy. There was a girl in my dance class I had befriended, without realizing that no one else was friends with her. About a year later, she and I were no longer friends because she was friggin mental. I tried not to say anything, just to avoid her, but something slipped out one time and it turns out everyone in the class avoided her because they knew she was a " head case " or total bitch, however you want to put it. I don't know if she was BPD, but she had some kind of personality disorder, and she totally did this thing where she would let you be her friend, but when you got too close and she realized you actually cared about her as a person, she would turn on you. Don't second guess your radar, but my thing is unless this person presents a danger to you, just cross the street and avoid him. If there is a way to vote him out, do so. If he has been at the center of too many conflicts, use that as the reason and just vote him out. No need to be " nice " . That's my two cents. Guest guest
Kind of sad.
