Its possible for a person to have more than one mental illness at the same time.

In fact, if I understand what I've read correctly, its actually more common for

someone with borderline pd to also have another major mental illness at the same

time such as an Axis I mood or psychotic disorder, or another Axis II

personality disorder.

So ol' Charlie might have bipolar disorder AND narcissistic pd, AND he's used

drugs before, regularly, (from what I've read) and cocaine and/or alcohol

addiction behaviors can display the same dysfunctional behaviors of other mental

illnesses.

Some of the things he says sound to me like he's only tenuously connected to

reality (there is a form of schizophrenia where they talk compulsively, but its

mostly " word salad " or nonsense) so... I think he's a walking grab-bag of mental

illnesses, myself.

How sad to have a lot of charisma and talent, make it to the top of your

profession, and then watch all your successes start circling the drain because

you can't keep your addictions and/or problems with mental illness under

control.

It's sad to watch the world celebrate his behavior too. Like it's cool.

I agree, I don't understand that at all (admiring celebrities, particularly the

self-destructive ones.)

For my part, I admit I am fascinated by someone who makes it to the very top of

a highly competitive meat-grinder of a profession (how many people on the planet

ever even get the opportunity to try out for a TV show, let alone star in one,

and make it a hit TV show?) and then just fall apart: crash and burn, due to

their own character weaknesses and/or mental health issues. Its like winning a

million dollars and then flushing it all down the toilet by the fist-full.

Why!?

This Charlie Sheen business has that " can't look away from the horrible accident

in the emergency lane of the freeway as you roll past it " aspect to it, I

suppose.

And I agree: it is sad that those who truly deserve to be celebrated for the

honorable, kind and selfless things they do are so often ignored, while these

bizarrely self-destructive celebrities are admired. Makes no sense.

I get an NPD feel from him along with - don't have an acronym for this - sense

that he's lost his filter. Kind of like he's just making up comedy material as

he goes along and has lost all sense of what's appropriate or who he is speaking

to. Some of his random speech reminds me of Robin going on an

ad-libbing (?) comedy riff. But Sheen's random stuff goes into odd and even

violent territory but he has no sense to stop himself. His live video over the

weekend joked about cutting children's throats. That's not funny no matter how

it is said.

Anyway, totally agreeing with you guys - he's got some kind of PD (at least one)

for sure.

I must admit, it is definitely hard to look away. I just hope, maybe this whole

thing will draw further awareness to mental health issues. Which comes first,

the chicken or the egg, the addiction or the mental health disorder? Does it

matter? And shouldn't we treat both? There is so much emphasis on treating the

addiction (in the media) and not on the underlying causes.

Yep, I really wish we had a formal shunning ceremony like the Klingons did to

Worf in that one ST/TNG episode - or that scene in " The Lords of Discipline "

where everybody lines up on either side of the shunned person, and as they walk

out of the school, all the students turn their backs.

He needs to get some mental health and addiction help, but he needs to do it

without using it as a publicity stunt, and the news coverage needs to cease

completely. There is a LOT of other stuff we need to be informed about, and all

this " car-wreck rubbernecking " is taking up valuable news time. He's not

newsworthy, IMHO. Just another pitiful, crazy junkie.

Let's go NC with Charlie til he gets his act together.

Personnally, I think the mental illness comes first and then the addiction.

I have a ?Bad? habit of ignoring celebrities. I saw Charlie's Lennonn

inspired t-shirt on Access Hollywood (I'm a fashion addict, though not even

remotely the trend following kind) and other than that, I haven't heard a

word he has had to say. But he sounds crazy from what folks have told me.

I've also never heard a song by Lady Gaga. I can identify one by

Bieber because my boyfriend sings it to me. I'm so totally un star struck.

I'll admit though - I have been paying attention to Kate Middleton's wedding

- but only because I want to see her dress, jewlery and accessories. I'm a

whore for dresses.

XOXO

Anyone interested in a pool for how long till he self destructs and ends

up dead or hospitalized?

I think bipolar and he's in manic state.

he sounds just like a cousin of mine who took off halfway across the country to

meet Bill Gates and tell him about his ideas that would radicalize the world. He

was the new messiah blah blah blah. Cousin diagnosed bipolar and also big-time

addict.

Just my two cents.

Out of curiousity--mostly because I was interested in analyzing more of his

behavior--I watched his uStream rants. He is way out of touch with reality. To

me, his speech seems disoriented, much in the way my nada's did in her

rage-filled rant over Christmas. She could make whole sentences, and they were

understandable, but it just had nothing to do with anything. All this business

about his gold and he's a warlock, and blah blah blah. He is not living in this

world right now, clearly. I think maybe he's having some kind of light

hallucinations, possibly all the time. And the paranoia! Cryer not saying

publicly that he's behind Sheen is some kind of grounds for him being evil?

I think within 2 months, he will be dead or hospitalized involuntarily.

Honestly, I sort of glad he's behaving this way, and hoping that it will draw

attention to mental illness. It's amazing how mentally unwell our society is,

and maybe, just maybe, if he's hospitalized, some day he'll come back healthy

and want to bring awareness to these issues.

I know, it's like asking for a miracle.
