Guest guest
There's a thread here that mentions Nadas neglecting animals, but in my family, it was just the opposite. It occured to me after I was an adult that my waify mom and her witch/queen mom treated the animals better than the kids. The animals got unconditional love no matter what. They were always fed and taken care of, defended and given all kinds of affection. The dogs and cats could do no wrong. It was kids they considered to be flawed and kids who needed constant repremanding, physical punishment and verbal abuse.
Guest guest
Maybe its that little pet animals remain the equivalent of a human infant's level of development: they are abjectly dependent and are not verbal, and an extra bonus with dogs is that they are wildly happy to see their owner even if their owner neglects or abuses them. Its like in your house the pets were the " golden child " and the human children were " scapegoated " . I'm so sorry you had to experience that growing up. -Annie > > There's a thread here that mentions Nadas neglecting animals, but in my family, it was just the opposite. Guest guest
My nada was also like that. She had lots of animals when I was growing up. (way too many really). She didn't always treat them with lots of love, mainly because there was too many, so she would have a few that she loved a LOT and the rest didn't get as much attention. But she never neglected them or abused them. She certainly treated them better than the humans in her house. Guest guest
Aww, thanks, Annie. Though I'm very sorry you've had to experience what you have as well. Often, I think you had it way worse than me. > > > > There's a thread here that mentions Nadas neglecting animals, but in my family, it was just the opposite. Guest guest
Ambertolina, That is the same way it was with my nada. She loved our dog always, played with him a lot. She still had her golden and her all-bad and her ignored...our cats she did not like, but our little dog she loved unconditionally.
Guest guest
My nada is obsessed with her pets (and there are now and always have been many). I'm pretty sure that when I was a kid I could have just disappeared for a couple of days without her noticing, but if one of the dogs sneezes or a parrot has a bent feather or something, it requires immediate (panicked) attention. Nada, of course, doesn't have the werewithal to actually deal with any stressors though, so all that stuff is my job (and also my profession, go figure). I think she likes the feeling that they will love her forever, without risk of abandonment. Until something threatens their health, which I imagine sparks that abandonment phobia and send her spiralling. I deal with a lot of pet owners every day, and I think it's relatively common for a myriad of personality disorders, trauma victims, etc to have very intense bonds to their pets.
