I can't see any another solution for this sort of horror other than individual

family members and neighbors gaining more empathy for children, becoming more

educated RE the behaviors and symptoms of mental illness and child abuse,

becoming less reluctant to confront an abusive relative or neighbor, and

becoming more willing to initiate an intervention.

In other words, making every adult human being a mandated reporter of child

abuse.

Our social services are stretched to capacity and spilling over; there are not

enough child protective services workers to handle the caseload as it is now.

Us nons have to become more proactive, I guess.

That, and a required program to educate children starting in kindergarten to

recognize the difference between normal, mentally healthy behaviors and

abnormal, mentally ill behaviors so that children have the awareness to

self-report physical, sexual and emotional abuse they're receiving at home,

realize that they are not receiving normal parental care, realize that this is

NOT OK, realize that they do not deserve to be abused, and its OK to ask for

help.

I love the idea of a kindergarten class for mental health. 2 thumbs up I

love that. I'll even teach it :)
