Guest guest
So basically, a white supremacist group somewhere in the south doesn't care for my ad agency's use of people of color in our ads. And someone on our staff gave them " shit " and now they have my cell phone number. What do I do guys? I don't want a white supremacist stalking me. I explained my concern to waif boss, and as you might imagine, she wasn't much help. She said all they could do was leave me harrassing messages. Guest guest
Geez, how'd they get your cell phone number? The best thing I can think of is to keep track of all their messages, and possibly go to the police for a restraining order (but I don't know how that works.) My other thought is to change your phone number if you can. The good news (if you can call it such) is that it's unlikely they'll show up in person. They're probably harassing dozens of other ad companies, too. That's just crazy. If I may say so, it sounds like something that only happens in sitcoms... geez. Worst I had was some guy squeezing me like the Pillsbury Dough Boy while I was shelving books at work some years ago. Guest guest
They got it because I have to have my cell number on my voice mail - because I have to be available after hours. Yeah, I guess that's true, they are probably too busy to make a personal visit. I haven't had any calls yet. Guest guest
I see. You may want to consider getting Google Voice... If you have a Blackberry, Android, or an iPhone, you can set up a Google Voice account, which you can give out. It has the ability to block phone calls from specified people for free, without having to pay a phone company money to block them. That way your real cell phone number is private, and yet people can still contact you after hours. http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs & guide=22635 DH helped me set it up and told me about it in the first place, and I like it for the added security of being able to block people. Good thing you don't have any calls yet--these supremacists are just trolls looking for trouble >_< On Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 1:12 PM, Girlscout Cowboy < girlscout.cowboy@...> wrote: > > > They got it because I have to have my cell number on my voice mail - > because > I have to be available after hours. > > Yeah, I guess that's true, they are probably too busy to make a personal > visit. Guest guest
All you can do at this point is document ANY form of harassment you receive, then take it to your boss's boss if your immediate boss is a dishrag. Documentation is your friend, and make sure your boss's boss knows if and when any harassment is directed at you. The staff member who exacerbated the situation by antagonizing the caller instead of turning the hostile phone call over to someone higher up to deal with, needs to be spoken to about how to handle such calls in the future. Antagonizing someone who is already unbalanced and hostile only makes things worse. There are protocols for handling irate customers (or other abusive callers) at a lot of large companies; I bet these protocols are available for viewing on the Internet or in books about management training. I empathize totally, its very unsettling and nerve-wracking to be the target of an obsessive stalker with a hostile agenda. But so far, it hasn't happened yet, right? Have a protocol in place before you get a harassing call. Save and/or copy any harassing calls; documentation can possibly help locate the crazy person and get them fined or arrested, at some point. -Annie > > So basically, a white supremacist group somewhere in the south doesn't care > for my ad agency's use of people of color in our ads. Guest guest
What about call block or message block? You can file harassement charges with the local police department. You don't deserve to be harassed. Guest guest
Greetings from the Southland. Sorry to say, although most of us down here are waaaay over this kind of idiocy, there are still some people who cling to it - here and elsewhere in the world. My suggestion - they probably are too stupid and/or lazy to follow up, but if they do start harassing you, collect the info you can (number, time of call, try to get them to leave voicemails) and then see if you can contact the Southern Poverty Law Center and see if they have any suggestions for you. They deal with racist and skinhead groups, and they have some bona fide American heroes on staff there. If there's a way to take action, they'll know what to do. Guest guest
Oooh That is a fantastic idea. Thank you so much. Waif boss was worthless, but you guys are gold. I guess I didn't expect anything from waif boss except maybe some empathy but I sure didn't get that. I just looked at the groups website - deanberryministries.us - they seem like kind of a young, new generation of white supremacists, at least based on the art and music on their website. Here's hoping that I got the lazy kind!!!! Hugs On Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 3:36 PM, shirleyspawn wrote: > > > Greetings from the Southland. Guest guest
Your boss is certainly a wimp! I agree with everyone else here you should keep track of the calls; have them leave voice mails if you can; document - document - document but go to another agency about this and not the police because a lot of them are white supremists down there and you don't know if you're dealing with the same people who are harrassing you if you do go to the police. Especially in small towns down south the police chiefs are KKK. I'm not from down south so I have no idea who you contact but there has to be someone who you can go to. Above all don't just sit back and do nothing because some of these people are such wackos they would stoop to hurting someone like you. I don't mean to alarm you but better you know than not know. Do something about it. These people are vile.
Guest guest
Thanks guys, no calls yet, but I at least know the name of the group. Hugs XOXO you guys are worth 10 million trillion waif bosses. > > > Your boss is certainly a wimp! > > I agree with everyone else here you should keep track of the calls; have > them leave voice mails if you can; document - document - document but go to > another agency about this and not the police because a lot of them are white > supremists down there and you don't know if you're dealing with the same > people who are harrassing you if you do go to the police. Guest guest
If they are leaving you harassing messages or calling with harassing calls, and they are not in your state, call the FBI.
