Hi all,

I'm getting back into counseling again after DH strongly encouraged me--even

helping set up my first appointment and everything. The first meeting is

scheduled Thurs at 5.

However, in order to get to it downtown, it takes a bus and a train to get to it

from work, and to get there by 5, I'd have to leave at 3:40. Normally I get off

of work at 4pm, but I was able to change my workday this Thursday to accommodate

it (by working 7:40-3:40).

However, counseling is going to be an ongoing thing, obviously, and if all the

appointments are going to be Thurs at 5pm, I'm going to have to semi-permanently

alter my Thursday schedule at work. I don't think my counselor will have the

flexibility to adjust the meeting schedule, so I need to talk with my boss about

adjusting my Thursday work schedule.

But...how to phrase it? How should I ask for this? I suppose I could say, " I

have counseling appointments at 5pm every Thursday, " but I don't want that to

negatively impact my boss's view of me, as some people on here have run into

that issue.

But to just say, " I need to alter my Thurs schedule for the forseeable future "

without an explanation doesn't seem right either--plus he might ask why. I'm not

sure how to tactfully handle this, and could use some advice, please.

Thanks :)

Usually the counselors I've gone too after the first appointment being at an

awkward time because of needing to get in quick, scheduling gets a lot easier

and you may beable to avoid the whole scene.  I'd go to the appointment first

and see what kind of schedule she can offer you if she can schedule something

when you have time off.

Just a thought

Good point. I'm hoping that even if the start time gets bumped down to 5:15,

that will be perfect. Hopefully we can make it work out :) If not...well,

we'll see how it goes.

I just always say either I have an appt or I have a doctor's appt.

I usually don't give them a lot of notice - but at my job no one needs to

cover for me - I just do my work and set my appts by my own schedule. So

that would make a difference. I usually send a text 12 hours to 20 min

before my appts. I find that the bigger deal I make out of it, the bigger

deal it is to others - so by making it just no biggie - it is just no

biggie.

True. I think I'm getting nervous over nothing (well, over the fact I'm

going to counseling again), but it just feels kind of odd to say I have an

appointment every Thurs for the forseeable future...but then again, they

can't do much about it, I guess. I'm glad that I can change my 8-4 to a

7:40-3:40, so I don't have to take sick time.

Thanks for the reality check--it's something that every employer has to deal

with, I guess.

Just nervous! My old counselor at the counseling place was too busy (well, I

was gone for 6 months, so glad she got the spots filled up), so I'm meeting

a new counselor who's good with EMDR and PTSD treatments and things like

that. I'm a little nervous also, 'cause told DH that she doesn't like to use

email with clients, and prefer to use the phone. At least DH is willing to

handle the phone calls for me <3 ('cause of my hard of hearing-ness).

I'm rambling now, and should get back to school. *cracks whip* I've got

final projects due...
