Guest guest
I know today is a challenge for many, many of us. One of you shared an online article which attracted commentary from others who continue to be challenged, rather than nurtured, by their mothers. Thanks for sharing that link! I am also grateful for a progressive church service this morning, in which the whole truth of motherhood was acknowledged. Not everyone has fond memories of the woman that gave them lifeSome mothers just plain fall short, and it becomes our job to make peace with that story, the best we can. For our own mental health. As I consider the process of mothering, I find it helpful to focus on those who have nurtured me in the ways I needed, and less on regret for the one Mother I was given by birth. It is from following my heart and (giving to and) receiving from the women who were eager to help me shape myself into what I WANTED to be, I have found healing and trust. I am ever grateful for those that mothered me with no strings attached, for the privilege of being a mother myself, and for my husband, who supports me in my mothering by complementing my work in being an active, loving dad. I am grateful for the love and honesty of the child I was given to mother, too. All the work I do in recovery, with twelve step programs and with the timely work of others who have studied and written to help me understand the personality disordered, has enabled me to be more completely honest, while looking for the good in my current life. All of these are evidence to me of a Higher Power who has helped me learn how to nurture myself, too! Best to all~ If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it. ~Toni on
