Guest guest
Oh man... I did it! Signed up for the boxing/MMA gym this am... had my first experience with Boxing. I'm hooked! Apparently I have quite an affinity for punching things, taking out the full weighted hanging bags, have great timing on the punching bags and have lazer like focus. Oh yeah..... If the trainer only knew the 'back story!' So, immediately after leaving the gym I went and bought Pink Everlast boxing gloves... says so much! What a rush! What therapy! I've found my MoJo! Guest guest
It really was amazing! I did weights for 20mins, went KuJo on the punching bags/ hanging weight bags and stand bags for 45mins then cooled down with a 14.8mph 'bike ride' for 15 mins. Purged some of that angst. When I finally got to the hanging weighted bags, my trainer said, " Now these are heavy... very heavy... 70-90#'s heavy... so take it easy to start... when they come back at you, it's with the force of a grown man. " So I thought, ok... I " ll start easy... but something in my head flipped and I was punching/ hitting/ roundhouse kicking and body blocking as the bags were flying. The voices in my head were very loud and WOW! It was AWESOME!!! So... they're closed on Sat/Sun but Monday am I'm back down there to take names and kick butt! Guest guest
Wow! I always admired seeing boxers in the movies do that thing where they're hitting the hanging, teardrop-shaped (or, sort of head-shaped) punching bag in a rhythmic pattern, left, right, left, right, so the bag is continuously going: " ...batta-ta-batta-ta-batta-ta-batta-ta... " I tried that once and it batta-ta'ed me right in the face! Ow! So, that's very cool that you've found something that is a great exercise/calorie-burning technique, a cardio- and muscle-strengthening technique, plus a method for draining off anger/aggression all at the same time! -Annie > > > > > > Oh man... Guest guest
I got the little punching bag down pat! I can keep it going for 3-5 mins... not bad for the first time out! The full body ones are where the full body rage can be unleashed... I see my therapist Tues... she'll be proud! Lynnette > > > > > > > > Oh man... Guest guest
that's fantastic, Lynette! Good for you, girl! I've always felt kickboxing/boxing are for me. I have a lot of aggression, ass to kick. > > Oh man... Guest guest
Monday thoughts... So all weekend I kept thinking about this new Boxing Adventure. I kept running through my head how it felt to really let loose and HIT something. It was pretty darn easy to get to that place with the heavy hanging body bags, to picture Nada (and all other Boundary Violators) and just go Kujo... This weekend I've had a few more moments that really tripped me up and, historically, would have sent me to my head for awhile. I know more are coming (based on conversations last night) but I really don't care... I know that in a little over an hour I'll be crashing up against those bags... burning it all up again. Dealing with the emotions of all this life-changing crap with a flurry of my pink Everlast boxing gloves and my ponytailed hair flying madly. I will be OK! Tomorrow I sit down in my therapist's office and wonder how she'll react to this new personal milestone. I imagine she'll cheer. Lynnette > > Oh man... Guest guest
I imagine your therapist will cheer, and how! You've hit a very large milestone in your healing. Thanks for sharing all this with us here, its very inspiring and comforting to know that healthy, self-protective instincts and healthy self-esteem (accepting that we have the *right* to protect ourselves from abuse) can be re-awakened in those of us conditioned to fear standing up for ourselves (and made to believe that we don't even have the *right* to do so.) Our mentally-ill, personality-disordered parents *needed* to cripple our sense of self-esteem, cripple our ability to merely ask for our due as a fellow human being: respect for our person-hood, in order to make us malleable and compliant and not complain about being mistreated, used, exploited, and generally treated like an object for *their* use. What they did to us as children is (to me) the emotional equivalent of chaining a dog, or hobbling a slave (cutting the Achilles' tendons in the back of the heel) so they can't run away. So, kudos to you! -Annie > > > > Oh man...
