Guest guest
Hi All, Halloween is coming up, and this will be my first year (I'm 29) that I don't spend it with Nada. My anxiety about it peaked in September and is now subsiding and I'm starting to feel the stomach tickles of some Christmas anxiety stepping in. But in the meantime, I am looking forward to spending Halloween doing whatever I want, and I starting having some thoughts that were putting a smile on my face.... it's probably a joke that's not new on this board, but I'll share anyway. This year for Halloween, I though maybe I could get dressed up as Nada. Then I'll go trick-or-treating. When I knock and someone answers, I'll make some sideways comments about how I know this really good landscaper who could help fix up that drab area in the garden, or how it's too bad that they couldn't afford better lighting and decorations for the porch. Then, with my prey significantly distracted, I'll reach into the candy bowl and take out BIG handfulls for myself, ignoring how much might be left for anyone else. And before I get going, I'll be sure to comment on beautiful my costume is (even though I'm not wearing one) and how lucky they were to get to see me wearing it. =D I hope you all are planning a fun holiday! Guest guest
OMG!! That's awesome! There is one part of your story, something that my mom actually did, she would actually dress up and terrorize the neighborhood, grabbing as much candy as she could!! I have to tell my story though, cause it's just ridiculous. We weren't allowed to trick or treat growing up, cause Nada was super religious and thought we might become satanists. (or watch the smurfs, or bewitched, all satanic stuff, LOL) She would show up unannounced at my grade school on Halloween and walk right into my class and say in front of everyone that we didn't celebrate Halloween, so I couldn't participate in cutting out pumpkins or whatever we were doing, and I would have to sit out in the hall by myself while the class did activities:-( Then on Halloween night we would have to sit in the house with the lights off and pretend we weren't home while people knocked on our door, and we would have to pray for them. (one of my first memories) Then when I was a teenager she suddenly decided that it was okay to trick or treat (I had lost interest by then) She would dress up as a fat kid with a mask and run around the neighborhood pretending that she was a mentally challenged child and take handfuls of candy then run away laughing. I would be more upset if it just wasn't so messed up funny!!! > > Hi All, > > Halloween is coming up, and this will be my first year (I'm 29) that I don't spend it with Nada. Guest guest
Don't forget to complain about the candy and use the neighbors to triangulate! " Good N Plenty?? The people next door had Snickers! " > > Hi All, > > Halloween is coming up, and this will be my first year (I'm 29) that I don't spend it with Nada. Guest guest
OMG you just described every halloween I had growing up. Of course now that I'm in my 40s with a son I get the snide remarks about my decorating
Guest guest
I almost cried when I read this. This is EXACTLY how my Nada would act in day to day situations and it was SO hard to pin down exactly what she was doing. Thank you for the humor! > > Hi All, > > Halloween is coming up, and this will be my first year (I'm 29) that I don't spend it with Nada.
