Guest guest
Ok guys..Debbie here again and I'm VERY confused over this dang afib thing~do I have it or not?I'm 53 and I remember having series of skipped beats since I was a teenager.I've stressed and worried about them forever.Like I told you guys before, had some real bad episodes about 6 years ago, each lasting about 30 minutes each, the last one the paramedics were called, was given something by IV that put me back in sinus and it felt so awesome.Doc started me on Lopressor 25mg AM and 25 mg. PM plus Xanax.Doc said I would have a few 'breakthrough' skipped beats. He actually wanted me to have an ablation done at that time but I read too many negative things about it and decided to stick with the meds. Lopressor has worked well for me. Lately I have been thru tons of stress, pending divorce, involved with a man who has cheated on me in the past, raising two teen daughters alone, not having enough money, you name it, I'm stressed over it. Also my 17 yr. old daughter is having skipped beats, is on the 30 day monitor for the second time.Stress and anger are my triggers for sure. I just can't handle it and I'm to the point of running as far away as I can get. I'm getting so very depressed over the whole thing. Went back to cardio today, he says I have a fib, but I still have questions that I don't know the answers too: How can anyone be in afib for months? I feel like I'm gonna faint and die after a few seconds. The doc says that some people feel the symptoms more than others...then I'm real good at feeling symptoms. I get the dang crazy beats and the blacking out feeling. Also I notice mornings my left hand and foot are tingly. Doc says that has nothing to do with afib.I feel so alone and there is no one that understands. Also, I've had a yeast infection and now have a cold and the crazy beats are back, and it does have something to do with that too. The doc just says find your triggers and get them out of your life...haha....not to be mean, but I've have to shoot a few people to do that..lol And the Doc just says 'up the Lopressor dose again' Heck, he just upped it a month ago...now he wants me taking 75 mg morning and night! My bpm are now at 58, but he said they could go lower, but that may also cause a problem....AAAAHHHHHHHH! Sorry guys, just had to let off some steam. All help will be appreciated! Love you all~Messed up Debbie in North Carolina~ By the way my ekg today was normal*why doesn't it happen THEN?????
Guest guest
Hi, Debbie, I have the sense that a lot of this is stress-related, and maybe joining a women's support group, or finding a caring therapist could help you. Can Anyone Make Sense of This? Please help, I'm scared! Guest guest
> > Debbie, I know what stress can do. It is one of my triggers. I find it helpfull to think more about the future than the past. I know it is not the easiest thing to do, but it helps. My bpm runs between 40 and 52 and that does not seem to have much of an affect on what I can do. My cardio says that over time people can adjust to the low bpm. I know this does not answer all your questions, but hope that it helps some. Guest guest
{{{{Debbie}}}} I can feel what you're going through. This AFIB is so scary. It;s also a cycle. My big trigger is stress as well...add the stress of being afraid of going into AFIB and you've got a mess on your hands. I'm not getting the feeling that you have a lot of confidence in your cardio. That is VERY important. I didn't realize it before,...but differenet cardiologist have different specialties. My hubby goes to one who specializes in outflow problems. I go to one whi specializes in rhythm problems. It may help to get another opinion. I have the cell phone number of my cardio's nurse. That really helps lowering my stress level...to know she's accessible. Also, AFIB is definitely hereditary, so it makes sense that your daughter has symptoms, especially under stress. Good Luck! Guest guest
Debbie, I want to thank you for telling your story, not because I have anything to offer you by way of advice, but because you have indirectly helped me.! I have read through all the responses written thus far, and I have learned much from them. I really appreciated Stef's gentle wisdom. It's sad that we sometimes feel letdown by healthcare professionals, perhaps that's because we are looking in the wrong place for the answer. I sincerely hope that the moment of writing your letter was your lowpoint and that you are already looking up and forward to better, healthier and lower stress days. Guest guest
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts re Ablation. Its always good to get yet another opinion; and to know that an Ablation can be successful - as proven by many of our members, including a couple of our own Moderators. My sympathies to our members who have had unsuccessful Ablation(s). It would appear we are a divided Group as far as numbers are concerned; and to have an Ablation or not to have an Ablation must rest with the individual. Ellen *************************** > > hey, if you have insurance you really should think about ablation, I am an anesthetist who had afib in the past and I was 22 when I had the surgery, I believe in modern medicine and went right away to take care of this problem I had been experiencing since I was 18. Ablations are so safe, of course there is the unforseen that could happen but overall it is alot better than many of the procedures done these days (snip) *****************************
