Guest guest
I deal with constipation with my NT daughter and my son on spectrum on and off. For my son, magnesium glycinate worked but you have to use at least 300 to 400 mg given at the same time. But mostly what works is the diet he gets. If your child is on gfcf, then probably he is not getting enough fiber. What works for my son on spectrum is not just magnesium but also pear and orange and also when I give him rice or pasta, he gets a lot of curry or gravy with it so the rice and pasta actually contains a lot of liquid. Also try to find if your child has any gut dysbiosis going on. For my son I found out that he probably had clostridial overgrowth which we guessed from his behavior and response to vancomycin. In my son's case, he was constipated and responded to increasing the dose of culturelle as per Channa's advice and then when I did vancomycin, his stool initially became loose but mostly his constipation improved to regular BMs everyday. The reason I am giving this detail is that I noticed that the laxatives like magnesium, epsom salt etc don't do much if you are dealing with an infectious process causing constipation. If you want to use any oil for laxative effect then I would recommend olive oil which is gentler. You can rub castor oil on his tummy in downward motion (as per my mil) but I havn't tried it so can't comment. For my NT daughter, I am strictly following a diet for her that I came up with and don't deviate from it as she is the one who ended up needing miralax when she got anal fissure. I only used it temporarily as a lot of parents report regression in their kids after miralax. I give her prune baby food and pear sauce everyday and she doesn't get any rice as it makes the stool harder and she then holds her poop. Also make sure your child has a good amount of water intake. I am not sure if any of this would help but just wanted to share what I learnt from my kids. is > > tried oxypowder, epsom salt, mag cit, and the dreaded miralax, recommend by gastro. Guest guest
I have found Miracle Fiber from Vitamin Shoppe to be the best fiber ever. His nurse recommends it to all of her clients.
