Man removed from US Airways jet for being "too disabled to fly"

An Internet story on a man being removed from a flight because he didn't have a companion although he'd flown on the airline many times before.

Passenger told he was 'too disabled to fly'

nie Tuitel, who has used a wheelchair almost his entire life, says a U.S. Airways agent told him he needed a companion to fly and asked him to exit the plane before takeoff.

Unacceptable! And besides, if he HAD needed a companion (in the sense of "someone helping him on and off the plane etc"), had that not been the duty of the company? I fly very seldom (and am not in a wheelchair either), but I travel by train a lot, and I know that the train company have a duty to help disabled passengers who need help on or off, or when switching trains. It can be done in different ways, with the train company that runs the national trains you need to pre-book such service, while the regional trains have a certain button by the doors to press when you need that kind of help (pre-booking would make less sense there, since most passengers don't have pre-booked tickets). But in any case, it's the company's duty to make sure the help is available, and the disabled persons right/duty to decide when and if the help is necessary. For the train company to "force" that kind of help on a passenger who doesn't need or want it would just be plain absurd!love/RebPS. And I'd like to second what the others said too: What's going on in your life now Dan? We'd all like to know. >> > An Internet story on a man being removed from a flight because he didn't have a companion although he'd flown on the airline many times before.> > Passenger told he was 'too disabled to fly' > nie Tuitel, who has used a wheelchair almost his entire life, says a U.S. Airways agent told him he needed a companion to fly and asked him to exit the plane before takeoff.> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/39686956#39686956 > > > Dan U > dao_nguu@...>
