Guest guest
Happy New Year to all, I am new here and to Valtrex treatment and would be very grateful if you could help with advice. My son is 10 and has autism. Tests have shown his tissue oxygenation is low with frequent ASBAS, lymphocytosis, raised aspartate transferase and very elevated Cytoegalovirus antibodies. We started treatment with Valtrex 500mg 3X daily and Fluconazole 50mg 1X daily about 12 days ago. So far we have not seen any changes in his behaviour and functioning, his appetite or sleep, but around day 7 of the treatment his eyes became blood shot and eye lids puffy, with dark shadows under his eyes, which is very unusual for him. At the same time, his eyes are not itchy, runny or causing any other discomfort. Today I rang the hospital to speak to his doctor about this, but he is away until mid next week. Someone else on duty recommended we stop the treatment until our Dr is back, as the symptoms my son has, particularly dark shadows under his eyes perhaps indicate an allergic reaction to Antivirals. At the same time, today his eyes look better and the swelling is reducing. What do you think, is my son's reaction worrying and could it really be an allergic reaction? If it is an allergic reaction, what are the options in that case? Many thanks, Vesna
