Guest guest
My son has severe pica. I am about to do a mineral test, so hopefully this isn't yeast, he is on 2 antifungals one being Dyflucan or parasites. I have read low zinc can do this. He is currently on a multiple vitamin Kartzinel and 20 mg of zinc a day. Anyway he grabbed some cheap necklace and was chewing on it and some of the metal looking paint came offof it, sso now I think he has lead poisoning. He has been acting more stimmy and rubbing on everythin more and rubbing his mouth more....any thoughts? Thanks for any help!
Guest guest
My daughter is zinc deficient and was chewing on everything until we upped her zinc. She is 30lbs and currently taking 60mg (which i am worried is a bit too much but she was very low on zinc and the number has been rising ever since increasing the dosage). Guest guest
My son was low about 5 years ago. It took nearly a year to get his numbers up where they needed to be and he to was doing just over 60mg. We now use Opti Zinc by Source Naturals (2x a day) and it has a wee bit of cooper. Zinc chelates cooper. We don't need much cooper but we do need a little. and in reality it usually is not given at the same time for deficiency, but for us, this supplement with both has kept him in good ranges for the past 3 years on both zinc and copper now. Guest guest
Hm...For a recent exposure, you might look into trying some Modified Citrus Pectin (I've been reading about this and will order it on payday just to keep in the house for instances like this. maybe even some maintenance). If you think he ingested enough to throw him off, It probably wouldn't hurt to up his antioxidants for a while (especially C if he tolerates it). Make sure he's pooping atleast once a day, too and give him plenty of water. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Thursday, January 5, 2012 10:42 PM Subject: I need serious help My son has severe pica. Guest guest
Thanks! His zinc is within range as of last test, but low range and the last test was 6 months ago. His zinc has never been higher than his copper. Do you guys give zinc seperate from ofther minerals? My son's doc said it doesn't matter and I started giving it with other minerals. He is only on 20mg a day plus a multiple vitamin, I will up it and see.I am using Kirkman that is citrate and chelate. Is picolinate better, I have that too? PS I swear you guys know more than my kid's DAN doctor. :-) Thank you so much! Subject: Re: I need serious helpTo: mb12valtrex Date: Friday, January 6, 2012, 4:02 AM My son was low about 5 years ago. Guest guest
Thanks. I have him pooping at least once a day, he is on Miralax and magnesium citrate, his DAN doc did a x-ray of his intestines and he has been backed up so he is currently taking stuff just for poop. Good idea about charcoal, I have it in the house. I will give it today. I have EDTA suppositories, wich he is not currently on (don't ask) I was thinking about giving that too, but maybe I will try the charcoal and give a bit more stuff for pooping. Guest guest
A google search of " Danger of Miralax" brings up a number of links. (Like anything else, some of these can be taken with a grain of salt - or are simply copied and pasted from one site to another) Here's a link to the yahoo group for parents who's children have suffered the effects of Miralax: I imagine their files section would contain good information.http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/miralax/?v=1 & t=directory & ch=web & pub=groups & sec=dir & slk=6 I noticed there's also a yahoo group for those in the U.K. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Friday, January 6, 2012 12:40 PM Subject: Re: I need serious help i have been researching and cant find any bad info on miralax. i know u all dont trust some drs but ours said its the safest thing u can use that will work and better than the child being constipated. Guest guest
I was dealing with anal fissure that my NT had a couple of months ago. I tried prune juice, pear sauce, prune pureed, lots of liquids, honey and took out all the potatoes and white rice. I could tell she wanted to poop but would hold it as she was scared of another scary BM. So finally I had to use miralax - 2 tsp in 8 oz of her milk and she finally got rid of the fear. I stopped it after 3 days and continued her on a regimen which works mostly but as soon as she eats something with too much salt and white rice, she develops hard stool again. In our case, my daughter was behaviorally worse while constipated but she seemed fine with miralax. But then I only used in emergency when safer stuff didn't work. I use it occasionally for two to three days. She didn't seem to have any negative effects of miralax but for my son on spectrum, I think I will not use it. Our kids are so fragile and their gut lining is not the same as other healthy kids. PEG in miralax is not supposed to be absorbed but there aren't many studies that have looked into children's gut mucosa absorption of PEG and especially a leaky gut may actually absorb it. Another fact is that children should only get 2 tsp of it in 8 oz of liquid and I know that some parents were using the adult doses. I would still recommend dealing with constipation the natural way. The thing that is working these days for my daughter is the use of smart balance spread on a slice of bread before her milk which really makes her go. But then again you cannot use it for kids on spectrum. Magnesium will help but only if given the full dose all at once. My son takes 300 mg of magnesium glycinate once he comes home from school and that takes care of the constipation. is > > > > >Subject: Re: I need serious help > >To: " mb12valtrex " <mb12va >
Guest guest
Zinc to copper ration should be greater than 0.8 for our kids. My son has a good ratio for the last two years but still mouths objects. In fact his ration was more than 1.25 which is bad also as then he was kinda copper depleted. I would say that since I have treated clostridia and yeast, chewing and grinding is gone and now it has been replaced by just licking objects. I discussed with his dan and he thinks that clostridia alter the sensory processing in our kids and treating clostridia will also disturb it also. So as long as the zinc/copper ratio is >0.8, please don't increase the zinc supplementation. I had my son on 50 mg of zinc last year and he ended up with elevated testosterone and armpit hair growth and his bone age increased as well. Parents on another forum helped me sort out what the culprit was and once I reduced the zinc dose, his testosterone level came down. For those of you who are using high doses for their daughters should be extra cautious as we don't want our girls to end up with other not so desirable problems. I personally check zinc and copper levels every three months and change the dose accordingly based on the zinc to copper ratio. is > > > > Subject: Re: I need serious help > To: mb12valtrex > Date: Friday, January 6, 2012, 4:02 AM > > > >  > > > > > My son was low about 5 years ago. Guest guest
We have found organic psyllium fiber to work really well as a bulking agent. There are complaints about it as well- it absorbs everything, so you can't do it at the same time as supplements. Also, sites suggest that it reduces the intestine's natural contractions that push food through, and so you become dependant on it. We didn't find this at all. We used it for over a year while doing very limited diets and extra probiotics and glutamine powder and it worked wonderfully. Coming off of it we had no problem with 'dependancy' and our girls are very regular now. We also use coconut oil to great effect to nearly immediately bring soft/loose stools (depending how much you give) when our girls do occasionally get constipated (when we eat beef, too much rice, or goat's milk cheese). Our girls are around 45 pounds, and I make a frosting out of coconut oil, rice syrup, and tapioca starch. I whip it up and refrigerate it for about 30 minutes and either put it on a GFCF muffin we make or just give them some in a bowl. If they eat about 2 TBSPs of the oil this way, it brings looser bowel movements within about 12 hours. Also for regularity I have to really take time and force my kids to drink water or an eloctrolyte mix in water. I do this BETWEEN meals, because drinking with meals dilutes their already limited stomach acid, causing their food to not break down, lessening their nutrient uptake and causing more gas/a harder time moving stool through. So 45 minutes before eating I make them sit and drink a glass of water. I have had to use really elaborate schemes sometimes to get this to happen, especially depending on Mia's fluctuating state of compliance, much more in the past than currently. One I have found effective is to offer their favorite medicines (sublingual B12 or Nervecalm for us), or something else treat like but not really food, only after they drink their water. I hold it in one hand and the water in another, and when they reach for the sublinguals, I put the water in front first! This became habit pretty quickly and now they expect it that about 4 times a day we will have 'water time' and it is not difficult anymore. This has been a big deal for us. Maybe other kids drink plenty of water, but mine have always fought it. > > > > I tried Oxypowder and my son seemed nuts on it, have no idea why but seems to be doing well on Miralax, honestly it probably isn't great but he is already on a ton of fish oils, magnesium, I give him fruit that helps with poop and without the Miralax, it isn't consistant. Guest guest
We give sep from Kirkman's cal/mag liquid. :-) > Thank you so much!...

" The father of the the child who died was on one of my boards. > > i have been researching and cant find any bad info on miralax. i know u all dont trust some drs but ours said its the safest thing u can use that will work and better than the child being constipated. That puts it in some perspective i think. > Re: I need serious help > > i have heard some not so great things about miralax..maybe you could google it .....or even look into some of the old posts in this group...
