Guest guest
Hi everyone, My son is dealing with chest pain and burps which improved with baking powder temporarily but now came back. Activated charcoal also helps with it but now that seems insufficient. Our dan has recommended pepcid but I don't wanna use it if I can find something safer. My son used zantac for the first year of his life but it used to make him sleepy and tired all the time. When we stopped zantac around his first birthday, he was less tired and more active. It may not be related but I am too scared to cause any regression in him. Has anyone tried homeopathy for acid reflux? Someone had suggested holy basil but that decreases cortisol and I am not sure if my son's cortisol levels are high enough to tolerate that. How many of you are using zantac or pepcid for their kids? Have you noticed any negatives from using those like changes in behaviors or speech? I have another thought that since my son started swallowing capsules, he started having this type of pain. Could it be because he is not swallowing capsules right and they are causing erosions or it is true reflux? We are in NJ and was wondering if someone could recommend a good Gastroenterologist who has some compassion for our kids? Thanks is
Guest guest
alexis another thing you could look into is lugols iodine....people have had success with reflux using this as well.....for my son....and his stomach acid issues....i used seven drops lugol in teaspoon of ACV after meal.......they say too much acid is actually can be caused by too little acid so the stomach ends up over producing....also h pylori is a bactiera that can cause reflux...iodidne kills bad bacteria .. you could give it a trial run....or try the holy basil....if they dont help then you can try the RX.... but you know i will just suggest another natural instead.... channa To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 12:22 PMSubject: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda Hi everyone,My son is dealing with chest pain and burps which improved with baking powder temporarily but now came back. Guest guest
Thanks Channa and ! Will definitely look into these remedies. I was also digging for the answer and started looking at the timeline when the problem started and the supps started. Just read somewhere that calcium citrate can aggravate reflux. How do you guys supplement calcium? I recently started calcium citrate by prothera brand which I mix in few oz of water. Could that be the culprit? The reason I keep digging is that my son started having reflux symptoms this october and had some minor ones when he was taking vsl3. What is everyone's opinion on calcium citrate? is > > > One of my son's blood test said he had low stomach acid, i give him biogest with every meal now, i have heard apple cider vinegar and manuka honey are both good for reflux. > > x > > > > > To: mb12valtrex > From: channabrennon@... > Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2012 11:11:53 -0800 > Subject: Re: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda > > > > > > > > > alexis another thing you could look into is lugols iodine....people have had success with reflux using this as well.....for my son....and his stomach acid issues....i used seven drops lugol in teaspoon of ACV after meal.......they say too much acid is actually can be caused by too little acid so the stomach ends up over producing....also h pylori is a bactiera that can cause reflux...iodidne kills bad bacteria .. > you could give it a trial run....or try the holy basil....if they dont help then you can try the RX.... > but you know i will just suggest another natural instead.... > channa > > > > > > To: mb12valtrex > Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 12:22 PM > Subject: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda > > > > > > Hi everyone, > My son is dealing with chest pain and burps which improved with baking powder temporarily but now came back. Guest guest
Hi is,I suggested the Holy Basil. It is an adaptogen, which means it balances. Most of our kids have high anxiety and high stress levels, which usually means high cortisol levels. I believe I mentioned that it helped with high cortisol levels, but because it is an adaptogen I don't think you need to worry if your son's levels are high or low. It also balances the GI tract. My son used to have horrible reflux too, often bringing back up small amounts of what he had eaten with each burp. He used to be in so much pain. I should also mention that the reflux improved a little after we got rid of the tapeworm he had, which was before we started using the Holy Basil. We use New Chapters Holy Basil. Their line is organic. I cannot speak for the other brands. I spent 20 years battling chest pains and burping secondary to reflux. It was horrible, it hurt so much and I could barely breathe. I used to take ibuprofen to manage the pain. Then I tried the Holy Basil (since I had some for my son and was giving it to him to treat his cortisol) and found it worked great for the reflux. Now I only take it when I have eaten really fatty foods that set me off. But I even have a better tolerance for that kind of food too and don't need to take it very often at all. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hyppchlorhydria or low stomach acid causes the same symptoms as too much stomach acid over 60% of the time. Try betaine/hcl with every meal for a while and see how it goes. Dr. Mike Sent from my iPhone

Guest guest
Thank you so much for responding . I was looking through the old posts and had difficulty finding yours and I am really thankful that you responded. I will definitely give holy basil a try. Did you have any adrenal issues before you started holy basil? I have adrenal issues and I am wondering if it would help with my problems. Have you ever tried ashwagandha also? How did you treat tapeworm in your son? Did you have any positive tests showing tapeworm or you just based it on symptoms? is > > Hi is, > > I suggested the Holy Basil. Guest guest
Hi is.From what I have read I think anyone under stress or chronic high anxiety will eventually have adrenal issues. I have not tried ashwagandha. I did a quick google search for "adrenal fatigue, holy basil" and got quite a few links. This is one http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2011/05/20/holy-basil-my-number-one-ace-in-the-hand-herb/I try everything I give to my son, so it was quite by accident that I realized it was helping with my reflux. It was a most pleasant surprise. My son did not test positive for tapeworm, despite multiple tests. I first realized he had one when he was 3 1/2 years old. He had suffered from severe constipation and we were working on getting his poops back to normal. His BMs looked like small black goat poops. My pediatrician wanted me to give him Miralax. After I read up on it I knew I wasn't going to use that unless I absolutely had toI gave him prune juice, grape juice, oxypowder, psyllium husk and anything natural that would help loosen his bowels. I had some success with these. Then I gave him some aloe vera juice because I had heard it worked well for softening stools and healing the digestive tract. After the second dose, he had really stinky burn your bum diarrhea. He was not toilet trained so I had a diaper to change. Not more than 5 minutes later I could smell it again. Went to change his diaper and there was only a small trace of diarrhea and something that resembled a flat rigatoni noodle with a lip on one end.I didn't know what it was at first, but suspected it was a tapeworm segment. Did some research, found some photos, and there was no doubt what it was. By the width of the segment I knew it had to be a large worm. That started about 8 months of parasite treatment with Paragone for Kids, Co Q10, Aloe Vera Juice which contained a variety of herbs including Pao D'Arco. The BMs that followed were quite bizarre. Lots of different things that had no business coming out of my child. He had had constipation since he was about 15 months old. Unfortunately I didn't pay a lot of attention to it at first. Many tests came back negative despite the fact that I had collected segments in the samples. Then I was told that they only looked for microscopic indications unless the doctor specified otherwise. By that time I was sick of the whole process. They would not prescribe anything because they need to know specifically what type of worm is being treated. The Rx will only treat specific types of worms. So I continued with the broad spectrum natural remedies and kept watching what was coming out. By what was coming out of him I knew it was making a difference, so I kept at it. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, and repeat. We were also using turmeric, GSE, olive leaf extract, bromelain and CLO. I mention these because they could have played part in our success. Most important once you start treating for parasites you need to kep the bowels moving. You don't want the dead/dying worms to stay in the body because they release neurotoxins as they decompose.Tapeworms in particular damage the intestinal lining with their hooks. They do not have mouths, and absorb the nutrients from food as it passes by their bodies. They have a chemical they release to slow the contractions of the intestines so the food passes by slower and they can suck more nutrients from the food. Slowed movement also means they don't have to exert as much energy to hang on with their hooks. Their survival depends on remaining undetected and siphoning all that is good from the food in the intestines. As they begin to die off you will get segments or large sections of the tapeworm, but you cannot stop until the head is passed out of their system. There are also eggs and cysts that need to be dealt with as well. If you don't get the head the tapeworm will regenerate, the eggs, and cysts will produce another tapeworm. We had many partially digested tail sections come out before he finally passed the entire worm. It was followed by another bowel movement of something that resembled jellyfish, which I think were the cystercoids of larvae. That was about 3 years ago and I haven't seen anything that resembled previous "findings". LOLHope this helps. Happy to answer any questions. Guest guest
i read on the low ox group someone mentioning calcium citrate causing stomach pain after a while to the point that they did not want to eat.... To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 2:38 PMSubject: Re: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda Thanks Channa and ! What is everyone's opinion on calcium citrate?is>> > One of my son's blood test said he had low stomach acid, i give him biogest with every meal now, i have heard apple cider vinegar and manuka honey are both good for reflux.> > x> > > > > To: mb12valtrex > Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2012 11:11:53 -0800> Subject: Re: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda> > > > > > > > > alexis another thing you could look into is lugols iodine....people have had success with reflux using this as well.....for my son....and his stomach acid issues....i used seven drops lugol in teaspoon of ACV after meal.......they say too much acid is actually can be caused by too little acid so the stomach ends up over producing....also h pylori is a bactiera that can cause reflux...iodidne kills bad bacteria ..> you could give it a trial run....or try the holy basil....if they dont help then you can try the RX....> but you know i will just suggest another natural instead....> channa> > > > > > To: mb12valtrex > Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 12:22 PM> Subject: Horrible reflux symptoms despite baking soda> > > > > > Hi everyone,> My son is dealing with chest pain and burps which improved with baking powder temporarily but now came back. Guest guest
This is going to sound counter intuitive but I had reflux and digestive issues, lots of burping, and tough time digesting meat. The MD gave me nexium. Didn't help, so he upped the dose. I stopped. The naturopath recommended digestive enzymes (big fan)... but I found that I had to take more and more. For another health challenge this past summer I started taking Allimed. I think it was like 9 caps a day - and I noticed my digestion improved. Needless to say Allimed is super pricey - so I replaced with garlicnase which you can get from fruitful yield. I take 2-3 a day with a meal and my digestion and nighttime reflux have improved the most ever. My stomach has returned to its 25 year old self. Now if the rest of me could do the same, I'd be golden - but at least 1 part. I'd definitely check with your doc to make sure that you are not having another problem causing the reflux. But I would also try garlic and see if it helps. For me, I think I had/have a fungal or bad bacteria overgrowth somewhere in my digestive tract that the garlic keeps at bay. Good luck > > Hyppchlorhydria or low stomach acid causes the same symptoms as too much stomach acid over 60% of the time. Guest guest
Not for clostridia. Digestive issues are infectious and other treatments are band aids. I would try various parasitic and meds for anaerobes until you see the symptoms go away. Guest guest
Hi , I have been reading about holy basil and really want to try it. But I personally have an enzyme deficiency which actually leads to low cortisol in stressful situations. Holy basil may actually help but I am not sure of my current hormonal status. I had the workup done several years ago and never did the follow up. You have motivated me to get myself checked out and once I figure out what my hormonal status is, I would love to try holy basil. I think my son is going through the same hormonal imbalance as we see signs of adrenarche in him. His initial workup was negative for adrenal hyperplasia but he has a follow up coming soon. I will let you know if holy basil is an option for us. Thank you so much for the detailed response regarding the parasite treatments. is > > > > > > Hi is, > > > > > > I suggested the Holy Basil. Guest guest
Hi is,You're very welcome. Happy to share any time. It's a deal I made with God. Show me the way and I will spread the word. Only in this case the word is not religion. The word is what I learn, what works for us, and to promote kinder, gentler more ethical treatment of kids.Hope you find some relief from your health issues. Guest guest
is, I don't know if you've gotten a chance to look at Frye and Dan Rossignol's excellent meta-analysis on melatonin in autism that was recently published, but they were constrained in reviewing what had been studied already and by what the authors knew about melatonin who did those studies. There was a lot these investigators didn't know. Did you know that melatonin can help with reflux? It is actually a big regulator and participant in intestinal physiology. Some melatonin is made in the pineal gland, but even more (unbelievably!) is made in the gut. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3240674/pdf/WJGPT-2-50.pdf and the other 18 articles on melatonin and GERD. So, you might take a look at the studies, and see if you'd like to try melatonin, and see if that helps. If, when you get your OAT, you would like me to do the dilution correction that becomes necessary when the kidneys start secreting creatinine (throwing the usual correction off) let me know. This correction can only be done on the full OAT, not the microbial OAT. One of the evidences that this secretion of creatinine to urine in the tubule cells might be happening is that serum creatinine will go down at the same time, because creatinine is being removed from blood and added to urine. Years ago, when people made creatinine the standard for calculating dilution, they thought it just went through the filter, but didn't think it was secreted. That ended up incorrect. Clin Cancer Res. 2012 Jan 5. [Epub ahead of print] Proximal Tubular Secretion of Creatinine by Organic Cation Transporter OCT2 in Cancer Patients. Ciarimboli G, Lancaster CS, Schlatter E, e RM, Sprowl JA, Pavenstadt H, Massmann V, Guckel D, Mathijssen RH, Yang W, Pui CH, Relling MV, Herrmann E, Sparreboom A. Source Exp. Nephrologie, Universitätsklinikum Münster. Abstract PURPOSE: Knowledge of transporters responsible for the renal secretion of creatinine is key to a proper interpretation of serum creatinine and/or creatinine clearance as markers of renal function in cancer patients receiving chemotherapeutic agents. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Creatinine transport was studied in transfected HEK293 cells in vitro and in wildtype mice and age-matched organic cation transporter 1 and 2-deficient [Oct1/2(-/-)] mice ex vivo and in vivo. Clinical pharmacogenetic and transport inhibition studies were done in two separate cohorts of cancer patients. RESULTS: Compared to wildtype mice, creatinine clearance was significantly impaired in Oct1/2(-/-) mice. Furthermore, creatinine inhibited organic cation transport in freshly-isolated proximal tubules from wild-type mice and humans, but not in those from Oct1/2(-/-) mice. In a genetic-association analysis (n=590), several polymorphisms around the OCT2/SLC22A2 gene locus, including rs2504954 (P=0.000873), were significantly associated with age-adjusted creatinine levels. Furthermore, in cancer patients (n=68), the OCT2 substrate cisplatin caused an acute elevation of serum creatinine (P=0.0083), consistent with inhibition of an elimination pathway. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, this study shows that OCT2 plays a decisive role in the renal secretion of creatinine. This process can be inhibited by OCT2 substrates, which impair the usefulness of creatinine as a marker of renal function. PMID: 22223530 > > Caryn, it was based on his symptoms and clinical history. I'm eagerly waiting for alinia to come back in the market as that was our first choice. I'm trying to get his OAT test done. > is >
