Anyone with negative experience with CULTURELLE??

Did anyone had tummy issues with culturelle? I am trying to rule out all the

possibilities which are causing my son reflux and stomach ache. I had used a

vsl3 and culturelle protocol in june this year and at that time my son had a lot

of burping and epigastric/chest pain. At that time I was using 6 caps of

culturelle a day. Now my son is on 3 caps a day and since I am trying to see

what brings on the tummy pain, I removed a lot of supps and left culturelle. My

son took 3 caps of culturelle and in about an hour's time, started burping and

complaining of chest pain again. Anyone with a similar experience?

If I give my son anything grown on whey my son wakes up all night long with nightmares. I have never tried vsl3, but Culturelle kept my son up all night. I also took him off it and the night waking stopped and put him back on and it started again. I have never heard this happening to anyone else. On a side note my husband has ibs and takes it and loves it.

This week I had increased culturelle from 3 caps to 4 caps which actually gave

him more bloating, abdominal pain, chest pain and burping. I looked up inulin

and it can cause all of it. Today I stopped all other supps that he gets after

school and only gave him culturelle and he got the same symptoms after 1 hour. I

will reduce the no of caps and gradually switch to another probiotic. Vsl#3 has

strep, threelac is not dairy free. I have heard of custom probiotics but does

anyone know anything negative about custom probiotics?

Christel, if it is die off then how should I handle it? I have been giving him

activated charcoal at night and he also gets his epsom salt foot soak. I have

been giving him 3 caps of culturelle after school. Should I space it out? He

gets oral vancomycin in morning and w dinner.

You could try the L rhamanosus one from custom probiotics.  That's the same strain as the one in Culturelle. No inulin in there and i believe they are gfcfsf allergen free.  The owner is awesome and really stands beside his products.  I had a long talk with him last weekend about Maia's issues and he gave me lots of helpful info.

oh my three caps at once is a high dose! for starters I would start low! one cap, then in an hour do activated charcoal to mop up. No food on either side of charcoal for an hour. so if he takes culturelle at 2.30 then charcoal at 3;30 and don't eat before 4.30 then work up.

He has been on culturelle for a long time and I did start with 1 cap a day then

gradually increased to 3 caps a day but I was giving him 1 cap 3 times a day. I

recently changed it to 3 caps at the same time to keep it away from the

antibiotic. It could be die off as it doesn't happen for like 5 days and then he

will have all this indigestion. I had increased it to 4 caps last friday and

that could have made things worse. I will try to space out the dose and see what

happens. I have stopped the calcium citrate which I read could aggravate reflux.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thanks for the info Alberta! I will call custom probiotics also. I just

purchased a 3 month supply of culturelle as I was getting discount. I hope he

will start doing better again and I can finish this current batch of culturelle.

If his symptoms don't go away, I will switch to custom probiotics right away as

even their multi strain products are strep free.

These days his stools are mostly formed. He has two BMs a day. That with the

help of magnesium glycinate. Before I started him on culturelle in june, he was

on therbiotic by klaire. He had loose stools, had lost his spontaneous speech

and developed ocd and anxiety. At that time he was also on magnesium oxide which

used to give him loose stools. After I started culturelle, his stool improved

and he is now more prone to constipation especially if I don't give magnesium

glycinate. I read somewhere that probiotics can lead to constipation but I don't

remember the details. Is that why you were asking about stools?

well I am wondering if you have a blockage and the big does of culturlle is causing magor die off and pushing liquid type stool by or into an inpaction causing pain. was the therabioic the complete or the detox? a lot of what you just discribed sounds a lot like PANDAS. not sure if you have ever read up on that but might be worth a look at to see if it fits your child.

You get custom probiotics online. We use them now too, they seem good. My son doesn't get side effects.
