Guest guest
Someone asked the question to this the other day. So here are the figures as of today that includes paid and free members from Texas. Guest guest
We have a winner! Actually the number NAEMT gave me was 878 but I think that was just dues paying Members and they did mention they had a " number of non paying Members " . Now the $64,000 is why do we have 878+ NEMT members and only < 300 EMSAT Members? So if you're an NAEMT Member and NOT an EMSAT Member might you give us a shot? _http://www.texasemsat.org/_ (http://www.texasemsat.org/) (http://www.emsatoftexas.org) Or cpontact me off line to discuss any issues or concerens about EMSAT that you may have (an offer open to ALL TEXAS EMS folks BTW). Guest guest
I think that one of the reasons that there are so few members is the fact that those organizations are usually only mentioned on this list. Only a fraction of EMTs and Paramedics in Texas belong to this group. EMSAT has not done a very good job at getting the word out to the EMS providers in Texas along with the benefits of becoming a member. Guest guest
What should EMSAT do to get the word out? They have done the following over the years. 1. Have a booth at the EMS Conference 2. Hold their General Membership Meeting that is well posted at the Conference during hours that does not interfere with classes 3. Held Receptions at the Conference 4. Have posted on this egroup since 1998 5. Have a quarterly news letter 6. Held Special called meetings on EMS legislation with over 25 Stakeholder groups 7. Filed and passed legislation 8. Had booths at EMStock 9. Kept ads in the Texas EMS Magazine 10. Held meetings around the State in different locations 11. Held quarter meetings during GETAC meetings and at other times not with GETAC. There is one coming up next week. 12 Held two EMSAT Conferences of their own. 13. Has kept a website 14. Has website listed at the DSHS website as a link and is linked at TAA, and many other sites 15. Sold and has held Corporate Memberships 16. Testified many times at GETAC and the Legislature 17. Visited EMS Services and Other organizations to recruit members 18. Solicited EMS Students 19. Has it's own egroup that anyone can join 20. Sponsored the Texas EMS Party that TDH use to do at the EMS conference and sponsored a party on 6th street in Austin during the conference. This is JUST a FEW things they have done. EMSAT I know is always open to suggestions. You have any? We need them. Or is it the EMS Community just won't support a professional association? There are about 900,000 First Responders in the U.S. NAEMT only has about 12,000 members of th 900,000 First Reponders , and about 66% of those are free memberships. They have been around about 20 years longer than EMSAT. What should they do? Thanks Ron Re: Texas Numbers > > >> I'm looking at the latest update from NAEMT membership statistics and >> there are 920 members in Texas. Held Receptions at the Conference Items 1-3 only apply to those at conference, less than 10% of EMS folks (or so). > 4. Have posted on this egroup since 1998 > 5. Have a quarterly news letter Items 4 and 5 apply to the approx 1% of EMS folks who are also on this list. > 6. Held Special called meetings on EMS legislation with over 25 Stakeholder > groups > 7. Filed and passed legislation Items 6 and 7 have little " reach, " PR-wise, with the EMSAT name on them... they're practically invisible. Invaluable as a service, but invisible nonetheless. > 8. Had booths at EMStock Very good idea, but poor execution, and only reached 300 people at best > 9. Kept ads in the Texas EMS Magazine With what " draw? " What was the " hook " for the ads? Wholly ineffective. > 10. Held meetings around the State in different locations > 11. Held quarter meetings during GETAC meetings and at other times not with > GETAC. There is one coming up next week. All of which less than 1% of EMS folks will attend, and less than 5% could even tell you what's going on with... > 12 Held two EMSAT Conferences of their own. Not even 5% of the EMS population? > 19. Has it's own egroup that anyone can join Why join? What's the benefit? And how can I join if I don't know about it because advertising/awareness is ineffective/low, respectively? > 20. Sponsored the Texas EMS Party that TDH use to do at the EMS conference > and sponsored a party on 6th street in Austin during the conference. Again, reaching how many people??? Less than 5% for sure, right? > This is JUST a FEW things they have done. EMSAT I know is always open to > suggestions. You have any? We need them. Yes, the same ones presented for years... get suppliers, etc. to offset costs for a direct mail campaign through advertising and incentives (mail everyone a professional brochure, and they get a discount from the sponsor of the DM piece for joining EMSAT, and the sponsor gets new customers). In the brochure, tout the real, tangible benefits of joining EMSAT. If there aren't enough, raise dues to the point you can add more. People expect less for cheap, and perceive value with increased cost if the benefits are measureable. Split memberships into co-funded local chapters... local issues, local awareness, local representation and local influence - with the locals (perhaps by RAC region?) supporting EMSAT at the state level? I believe that TEMSF, recently re-formed (i.e. under new management), can help EMSAT with this, and I'd love to sit down and explain how this was originally intended to work - a partnership for the progression of EMS in Texas. Who, of the EMSAT board, lives in/near Austin or San ? I'd love to see what you/they think... Mike , Director Texas EMS Foundation
