Jim - 3% mortality is incorrect. There are 4 major complications from an

ablation: stroke, stenosis, tampanad and esophogeal fistula. The first three

average about 1%, which in the world of complications is considered " safe " . The

latter, which can be the most deadly, is about 1 in 1000 last I heard... much

smaller than 1%.

To put this into perspective, each year a person is on coumadin, they run a 1%

risk of a major bleed. And if you're not anticoagulated, your risk of stroke

from afib goes way up when you have an episode longer than 48 hours. Afib which

is not controlled properly can also lead to an enlarged heart and eventually

heart failure.

There are sides to every coin and this is no different. If you are

unsatisfied with your current cardio, and your afib is starting to interfer with

your life, then I would recommend a second opinion.
