Guest guest
FISDAP is great but we found that WTHI-FISDAP is the real winner. That would be What The Hell Is -FISDAP? Guest guest
Andy, FISDAP is a field internship and clinical rotations program that allows scheduling online and students to sign up for their rotations online. It also provides a data base that keeps track of skills performed, allows for online documentation, and engages in research. An EMS program can do all of its clinical and internship management by using it. It costs $50 per student, IIRC. We used it at Tyler Junior College and at TechPro. It is a wonderful program. It will do lots of other stuff for you if you learn how to do it. It is very widely used by EMS education programs all over the country. Guest guest
Actually, Eddie, we used it for basic EMTs as well as advanced and never had any difficulties with it. But I admit there is a learning curve. Here's what I recommend and what we did. We prepared a CD/DVD for each student that tracked the FISDAP program's procedures and went step by step with them showing how to do it. If you don't do that, I think you'll have a steeper learning curve than if you do. We did a " capture " of the different screens and went through them in class before the students began clinicals. When they " got lost " they could go back to their CD and go through the learning process once again. Of course, this assumes that the student has the sense and motivation to do that, an assumption I admit is reckless in the extreme. Gene G. > > The Acadian program uses it in LA and love it. We will start using it for the Intermediate and Paramedic classes we hope to start in May. One item of caution: do not use it for the Basic students. Will cause more problems that cures. Guest guest
Well, as more and more EMS services transition to electronic run reports (ok, so it's a SLOW transition), I think that this is a great tool to help those who are maybe not so technologically gifted to get introduced to electronic documentation! -Ben Re: FISDAP >> >> FISDAP is great but we found that WTHI-FISDAP is the real winner. Guest guest
Hey, Eddie, I have been using it for Basic students for a couple of years, and it was still greatly beneficial. I didn't use their preset minimums since they varied so widely from most of our programs in Texas, but using that feature was unnecessary anyway. What benefit I DID have from it was the ability to print off EXACTLY what experiences each student had down to age groups and types of patients contacted as well as individual skills performed or observed, which was wonderful. Plus, the added benefit is that for students going on to advanced level courses, they had already been introduced to using FISDAP and the learning curve to go to the advanced level was slim and none.
