Guest guest
Ok..so I know that with the holidays and all that everything gets slowed down but can anyone tell me why it is taking so long to update Certs after it changes???? I took my EMT-I test and passed (YEAH!!) on Dec. 1. My cert was mailed from NREMT and received to me within a week but my State has taken well over a month??? Anyone know what could be the reason for the delay??? Thanks!!!
Guest guest
Joe and Phil, You both have valid points. This is why I encourage student s to apply well before they take the NR exam. If their application has been processed once we receive their NR Number we are able to certify them within a few days. I will contact her off line to see what we can do to help. I appreciate your understanding. Maxie Bishop **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
, The Texas certification process takes time, I think they advise processing time can take up to 6 to 8 weeks. I believe a lot of it has to do with them needing to perform a background check through the Texas DPS office, which adds additional time. I can't tell you the exact reason for the hold-up, but if you're uncomfortable, I'm sure you can give the folks in Austin a call and they'll tell you what they know. Keep an eye on your name in the certification database.... Congratulations on passing your Intermediate and good luck! I know the wait is tough, but you'll get there. I had to wait for my LP because it was being processed during the water-pipe fiasco. Congrats! Guest guest
Understand that almost everything at DSHS-EMS shuts down during the week before Thanksgiving for the annual EMS conference, and because of that the entire month of November is a steady uphill grind toward getting past the conference. Since it was in Houston this year, not only were they out of the office, they were out of the ZIP code. Immediately after the conference, they try to catch up on all the stuff that got delayed due to the conference activities. Since DSHS-EMS is as overstaffed (dripping with satire, for those of you who were unable to hear my thoughts) as the rest of us, it's easy to understand that this can be a challenging time for them. Additionally, Christmas and New Years are both State holidays, so DSHS-EMS and every other State gency with whom they must interact during your certification process s-l-o-w-s d-o-w-n. I realize that you've just spent months working toward a certification, and now the wait is killing you, and you feel like inocent people are dying all around you and you can't save them because your certification isn't back yet...but be patient. We've all been there - trust me. Those people are working as hard as they can and they'll get the cert to you ASAP. Guest guest
Let me take this occasion to drop a gratuitous compliment on DSHS. They are an unbelievably dedicated, hard working and overworked group of people. They are now doing with 1/3 the staff they used to have quite comparably with what they did before the budget cuts. The Houston Conference was absolutely MASTERFULLY run. I had a huge amount of equipment to get moved in and out, and unlike the vendors, I couldn't use the big ramp into the exhibit hall because my rooms were far away. Harrell, Dawn Whitfield, Phil Lockwood, Donn , and others went out of their way to help, and some of them ended up actually toting heavy manikins at the end of my presentations. The staff at the Houston convention center was also the best I have ever seen at any conference I have worked. That is above and beyond the call of duty. I'm sure that they will catch up on issuance of certificates within a short time. I have been involved with DSHS and its predecessor, TDH, for a good 30 years, and I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for them. Now that I'm in another state, BELIEVE ME, I miss Texas EMS. Some of you don't know just how good you have it in Texas. You all can be proud of what EMS in Texas has achieved. My best to all at DSHS. Happy New Year. Gene Gandy, JD, LP > > Joe and Phil, > You both have valid points. This is why I encourage student s to apply well > before they take the NR exam.
