Guest guest
Are you saying Dr.usmans uses that protocal? My son went there and that protocal just made my son sicker. Thanks,Tammy F. I have not been to pfeiffer but I know of someone on another group who has. Her son's doc was/is (????) Dr. Usman. I think she(Dr. Usman) has a separate practice now but they still follow Pfeiffer protocol. Guest guest
We went to Pfeiffer (Treatment Center) years ago for my son. Saw some nice gains initially. We left after we didn't see more gains, as they were limited to within their protocol, which didn't address everything my son needed. They did eventually close. I haven;t hear the story on the new Pfeiffer Medical Center, though an awesome nurse/case manager we worked with when we were seen at Pfeiffer, has opened a new clinic and sees many of the former Pfeiffer patients including my son. She's at Wyndgate Health (wyndgatehealth.com). Her name is Mc. She's an RN and has PAs and CNPs working with her. Guest guest
The B6 problem is a Yasko thing, B6 can turn to ammonia and cause kids with a CBS mutation to go bonkers. On B6 my son gets mad, so one day I took a bunch of it myself and guess what? I wanted to kill my husband and was crying like a lunatic. On the flip side my son only talks on high amounts of methyl B-12. So no B6 for our family. :-) Subject: Re: increased stimming and refusing to do academicsTo: mb12valtrex Date: Friday, January 20, 2012, 3:10 AM That is great inf Toni, thanks I printed the article. Guest guest
B6 causes this (IMO) if you don't have a good balance of other stuff going on. That's why with this as with many other thingsbiomed, low and slow is the way to go. Magnesium helps balance it out. It'd be like not giving b12 because your child gets stimmy. The docs tell us to ride it out or have us make adjustments. My kids have CBS mutation here and I follow a lot of what Yasko does. However they are both on high dose B6. B6 is vital in making glutathione. Yasko's Ultimate B does have 7.5 mg B6 in it. It's an excellent product otherwise, but we do add more B6. We use a sustained release 500mg B6. Some of our most amazingly good results in biomed have been from B6 and magnesium so I do like to speak up for them.:-) The B6 problem is a Yasko thing, B6 can turn to ammonia and cause kids with a CBS mutation to go bonkers. Guest guest
All the magnesium in the world couldn't stop my CBS++ son from crashing on high dose B6. And I did go low and slow. Thankfully, we have him back now that we are following Dr. Yasko. At least I know WHY B6 was not good for him, and why Biotin was terrible as well. It took months to see the effects, but they did eventually catch up to us. I understand my son is the rare case, which is why he does so well on her protocol, IMHO. I hope I don't sound argumentative, I just cringe when I think how I forgot the golden rule: what's good for one is not good for all. > > > ** > > > > > > The B6 problem is a Yasko thing, B6 can turn to ammonia and cause kids > > with a CBS mutation to go bonkers. Guest guest
Oh yeah, true. Are you using the Ult B ?I've been able to remove a lot of supps by using Yasko's compound supplements.Mine are CBS +/- but they are also compound hetero for MTHFR and have COMT as well. I am not sure how that affects the CBS snp. It probably helps because them being slow methylatorsprobably means they don't get backed up in the CBS, but uh. totally not sure.I was not able to give my son mb12 AT ALL without creating a mess in him. Even a supp with 5mcg of b12, he'd be stimmy mouthing everythingAfter I started using her MTR/MTRR with hydroxo-cobalamin, we started to be able to.Her supps are wonderful. That is something, we rely heavily on biotin too. LOL They had issues when we first started that and then we just worked up. At 15mg now. Nope... not trying to be argumentative at all. But till we increased the B6 in my son, we were just wasting a lot ofmoney on supps that patched up symptoms and didn't seem to help for more than a few hrs at a time. :-) Just throwing info out there. Guest guest
So funny you say that, it wasn't until WE started the MTR/MTRR supp that we could do the Ultimate B! This is him: CBS++, MTHFR A1298 AND C6997, NOS+, COMT, MTR, MTRR (many)...good lord, can you say AMMONIA??? I love love love her compounded stuff. I guess it's how all of them are the right amounts and combinations or whatever, but they're excellent for us. We can't do the B6, but Benfotiamine,Riboflavin and NADH are awesome around here too. Lots and lots of it actually. Oh, and lots of HB12 too. Golden! :-) > > > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The B6 problem is a Yasko thing, B6 can turn to ammonia and cause kids > > > > with a CBS mutation to go bonkers. Guest guest
You should make sure you are also giving other Bs with it, too. This is a theory, I think it makes sense but since we are increasing methylation and spinning those " gears " faster by adding in something, it can deplete the co-factors and other participants in the metabolism. Now I wouldn't max out everything at once, that would not be cool. You could trythe Bs on yourself as an experiment so you can see how they make you feel. Some people who take B6on the other list I am on (trying low oxalates) will have what we call " oxalate dumping. " Oxalate dumping looks like " yeasty symptoms " " regression " etc.We use mag citrate and I use them in 200mg tabs. But if your child is prone to diarrhea, you probably want to be on alert! Mine were more likely to be constipated and they use the potty independently so runny poo isn't a major concern for us, thank goodness. What dose of magnesium do you use/what kind? Is there anything else that balances out B6? Thanks, Bethany > > B6 causes this (IMO) if you don't have a good balance of other stuff going > on. Guest guest
Thanks so much for that info! We have all our B's in place, and molybdenum. Plus TMG, MB12, methylfolate. Right now on the 86 mg of magnesium found in EmergenC. My question is, every time we try to add more magnesium, we get an increase in seizure activity. We must have excess aluminum to detox. So I think I need to add the magnesium, but we get " jerks " even when we give a very low dose. This has happened with other supplements, we've just pushed through the seizures and eventually they stop. I just hate doing it. Anyway, just thinking out loud. If you have any thoughts I'd love to hear... Bethany > > > > > > B6 causes this (IMO) if you don't have a good balance of other stuff > > going > > > on. Guest guest
Hi, I wish to preface this with letting you know I am new to all this and I don't know much about it so take this information with a grain of salt. Use or ignore it but I just wanted to share what I learned if it can help you with your child. EmergenC has Alpha Lipoic acid which chelates mercury and other metals. If you follow/believe the A/C ( Cutler) protocol, it is causing redistribution of mercury/metals once a day in your child. Could it be that the ALA may be the increasing the seizure activity? > > > > > > > > B6 causes this (IMO) if you don't have a good balance of other stuff > > > going > > > > on. Guest guest
Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. When we first started ALA (per Cutler protocol), we got no reactions. Then we tried it transdermally (homemade), and it caused a big increase in seizure activity, as well as a HUGE increase in language and interactivity. Then after a DMSA challenge (I know, that's so bad), ALA started stopping his seizures. So our seizures are definitely related to metals. Magnesium used to cause no reaction in my son - no matter how much he took. After we started Valtrex, magnesium started causing seizures. But Valtrex itself stopped seizures. It's enough to make one crazy several times over! A lot of people may think this is terrible, but we do a small daily dose of TD ALA and it goes a long way in keeping the seizures away. Thanks, Bethany > > > > > > > > > > B6 causes this (IMO) if you don't have a good balance of other stuff > > > > going > > > > > on. Guest guest
OMG Bethany my heart goes out to you. It is so hard to tell yourself that seizures are a " good thing. " :-(The B6 seizure group I am part of is advised to give more B6 during illness. Apparently illness lowers the seizure thresh hold. I'm not sure if that help you. :-) But when my son has a fever, I give more B6 and not the sustained release kind like he usually gets. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. When we first started ALA (per Cutler protocol), we got no reactions. Guest guest
Good thinking. If you troll around pubmed and look up pyridoxine and seizures, you will find some interesting info. Guest guest
Amy,Would you mind sharing why biotin was terrible for your child? My son is CBS +- and has gut problems. I started giving him some biotin in attempt to harden his stools a bit. He is acting little weird lately and you made me wonder if it is biotin. Can you please explain a bit.
