set on scene trying to get a tube? How many times will you try to get the tube

before you either use a differnet technique and or let some else try? i have

seen medics set on scene trying to get a tube for minuets and not get one, then

deside to use a BVM. My question for discussion is a simple one. How long do you

wait?

Just something to talk about is all

Ok when I first posted this message I made an error and it sounded like Chris

was the one who wrote it so sorry about that and I think it may have only been

sent to him. So once again I post it out there and not with Chrises name on it

so sorry Chris.

Here is something to talk about. Note this has never happened it is more of a

'feneral topic thing than anything else. Lets say that you are on scene and you

think you need to intubate. how long well you set on scene trying to get a tube?

There are two things to remember. First, doing the same thing over and over

and expecting a result is insane. Second, if your patient can't breath,

nothing else matters.

If your attempts are not working, do not persist in doing the same thing

again and again hoping that something will change. Use a different technique,

a

different blade, a different device.

See my article in this month's EMS Magazine titled " Conquering The Difficult

Airway. "
