Guest guest
Sorry to take up bandwith with something most will not have interest in, but wondering if I could get a few opinions about different type 3 ambulances. I am totally ignorant about these vehicles but it seems as if the-- " minimod " is singel axel and thus capable of a smaller box load and thus thinner skin, smaller tubes. It seems to me that it is a " cheaper " ambulance and thus significantly less expensive. However, if I am purchasing an ambulance for marketing only and can save money buy buying this type and thus more money on paint etc is there any other downsides? I susepct to the EMS professional the minimod would appear much less appealing for patient care, but doubt the lay public appreciates the aesthetic difference. Also, for the Gene and Wes-es of the group, the information I have is that there is no restriction on owning or operating an ambulance equipped with lights etc as long as I am not using it to transport patients and don't turn on the lights or sirens on a public road. Having said that, I find no restriction from turning them on OFF of public roads (e.g. at a school parking lot talking to kids about EMS and ER professions to demo.) Thoughts... Kirk D. Guest guest
Kirk, if you are looking at price why not think about a Type II? I haven't priced them in a while, but if my memory is correct they are the least expensive. There's also a gaggle of aftermarket items that can put some flash on to the stock chassis since basically all you are doing is customizing a van. (Particularly wheels/tires than can add bling to your paint job.) Guest guest
Kirk: I think you are right. Any old ambulance will do. Spend your money on how it looks as this will be the most important aspect. The police D.A.R.E. programs have caught on to this concept and some have spent lots of money on flashy vehicle to draw attention from the kids. As far as the legal requirements go, the local DSHS office (817)264-4720 can help you with that. I don't know of any restrictions since you are using it for advertising or marketing purposes. I don't think the lights off-road would be any issue either. It would only become an issue if you were presenting the unit as " Mahon EMS " or something like that and transporting people. Lt.
