It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take less than a minute of your time It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the phones you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS. It take about 20 seconds. Guest guest
According to Snopes.com this email is FALSE for many reasons, but one major reason is that by in large telemarketers utilize auto dialers to make calls. It is against the law to utilize an auto dialer when calling a cell phone. For full information go to Snopes.com and enter " national do not call list " and choose the 3rd search result " cell phone numbers given to telemarketers " Rick ________________________________ From: texasems-l [mailto:texasems-l ] On Behalf Of maxifire@... Guest guest
The problem is that even though there is no deadline or your cell phone numbers will be released stuff, etc., if you have used your cell phone as your contact number for things like online purchases, contact info for online or mail surveys, etc., it can be shared and will be shared unless told otherwise in your sales agreement. My husband has had the same cell phone for years and is plagued by constant sales calls on it now because he hasn't put it on the " do not call list " . So having your cell phone on that list will help put a stop on or keep you from getting those calls eventually when they finally do get your number. Guest guest
As I understand it, the do not call list does not prevent those companies that you do business with from calling you or distributing the number to other companies, it only prevents initial telemarketing calls. Guest guest
This topic was just discussed on the radio with a lawyer and he states that if you call or contact a company for any reason. The law considers that doing business with said company and they ( the company) can call that same number back for up top 18 months. Guest guest
That is correct. However, many of the online companies with whom you might do business still share your phone numbers with other companies, whether they are supposed to are not. THOSE are the ones that have been plaguing my husband. I have put him on the " do not call " list today since he wouldn't ever send back the e-mail verification that they send that you must send back within 72 hours (took care of it for him like a good wife). I did notice on the website that they have knocked down the time period for being able to complain against folks who continue to call you despite being on the list. If I remember right, it USED to be 90 days. You can now file a complaint 31 days after you place your phone on the list. Just be sure to get either the phone number or name of the company that is calling you because you have to report that. I usually give them one shot and tell them that " my phone number is on the do not call list and if you call again, I will file a complaint. " I haven't had a single one of those companies call back again and I now receive almost nothing. Be aware that some companies from other states are still using the computer dialing too, so when you answer the phone there is nothing at first or a recording that says, " Please don't hang up. We have an important call for you. " If you are current on your bills, then this is most likely a telemarketer. If you want them to stop and you are on the list, you need to stay on the line until they come on, find out which company they are with, and then tell them not to call again or you will report them. If you don't, your phone just keeps ringing. Guest guest
Telemarketers are a big nusiance and I use a free website do not call list and registered both my home phone and cell phone back in Oct. 2007. www.donotcall.gov It works and when I do get a call...down to about 4 a month I tell the marketer, " I have registered with the National do not call registry " and they excuse themselves and hang up. It does take a little time and it is not an insttanince system. Another website I am using is.. www.catalogchoice.org Catalog choice is also a free service and you are able to decline junk mail catalogs you no longer want to recieve in your postal mailbox. And this system also takes time to kick in and there is a tidal wave catalogs to go through and you do need a customer number. I list under my name and do another under Current Resident.
