Counties after Ambulance Closure JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reported 16 counties were placed under a State Of Emergency after an ambulance company went out of business. According to the Mississippi Department Of Health, Emergystat closed its doors at 12 a.m. Thursday because of financial problems and lack of liability insurance. The ambulance company serviced 23 counties in the state. MEMA reported that all of those counties found temporary ambulance service. Kemper, Claiborne, Simpson, , Cahoma, Tallahtchie, Yazoo, Pearl River, Wilkinson, Newton, , Noxubee, Marshall, Amite, Panola and Jefferson Counties are all under a State Of Emergency. MEMA officials said those counties will remain under a State Of Emergency until full ambulance service is restored. American Medical Response officials in said they will provide assistance to Claiborne, Simpson, and Pearl River Counties. The Mississippi Health Department opened a command center to handle technical questions from the effected counties. AMR officials said anyone having an emergency should still call 911 for help.
