thoughts, but there are no adequate words to express them.? My sincere

Helicopter Missing

Updated: Feb 5, 2008 11:06 PM CST

The Cameron County Sheriff's department, along with Coast Guard are

responding to a helicopter that went down 2 1/2 miles west of the Convention

Center.

There are few details, but officials do tell Action 4 News the helicopter

was heading from Harlingen to South Padre Island.

There are still no word on any injuries or fatalities at this point, but we

do have a crew on the scene and will bring you the latest information, as

soon as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Two helicopter crash victims identified; pilot's body recovered

Two medics who died in an Valley AirCare helicopter crashed have been

identified, and rescue crews continue to search for the body of the pilot,

officials said Wednesday.

The dead are identified as T. , believed to be from Harlingen,

and , 38, from Weslaco, Cameron County Sheriff Lucio said.

A rescue crew of about 15 divers from various Rio Grande Valley fire departments

continues to search the Laguna Madre for the body of helicopter pilot

Gouse, whose body was recovered around 11 a.m.

The EMS helicopter left Harlingen and was en route to the Port Isabel Convention

Center " but aborted the mission due to weather, " Coast Guard officials reported.

Communication was lost soon after and it's believed that the aircraft went down

at about 9:30 p.m. with the pilot and two medics on board, according to a

prepared statement released by the Coast Guard Tuesday.

Cameron County sheriff’s deputies and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the

crash site, about 2.5 miles west of the South Padre Island Convention Centre and

just east of Holly Beach.

The crew of a Coast Guard Corpus Christi HU-25C rescue aircraft located the

downed helicopter's fuselage at around 11 p.m.

South Padre Island spokesman Moody said emergency responders were using

the island's convention center as a staging area for a rescue operation. Local,

state and federal officials were helping in the search.

On June 5, 1998, a Valley AirCare helicopter crashed en route to an auto

accident at the Starr and Jim Hogg county line, killing three.

Investigators said that crash was caused by the pilot’s “continued flight

into adverse weather conditions,†according to Brownsville Herald archives.

Most of the Rio Grande Valley experienced high winds Tuesday, with gusts in

Brownsville reaching up to 40 miles per hour.
