Guest guest
Please see below a message about the state EMS-Trauma Registry which was originally sent to listserves on 12-13-07. As STRAC executive director Epley points out, there were a number of stakeholders at the RAC Chairs last night who were unaware that the GETAC members of the Registry workgroup had communicated the outcome of the initial joint meeting. Trauma Registry Work Group Update As many of you will remember from the last GETAC meeting, Dr. Racht appointed a working group to meet with the leadership from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) concerning the problems with the State trauma registry. Dudley Wait, Wanda Helgeson, Epley and myself met with the leadership of the registry. Attendees included the Acting Chief of the Division for Prevention and Preparedness Services, Casey Blass, and the Chief of the Division of Regulatory Services, Kathy Perkins. Dr. Lakey was present along with the key staff responsible for running the registry, and key DSHS trauma staff. The meeting was very constructive. The participants discussed the history of the registry along with the historic and recent problems facing the registry. The DSHS participants were very candid with respect to the problems of the registry. They were also very open and candid with respect to the constraints and challenges of DSHS in responding to these problems. After a detailed discussion, we did consider options for moving forward. The leadership of DSHS was open to many ideas including the option of outsourcing the registry. The group felt that it was critical to get more stakeholder input as to the best option for repairing the registry. We felt that the Texas EMS, Trauma, and Acute Care Foundation (TETAF) would be the first choice for rapidly obtaining stakeholder input. The stakeholder input will be critical in determining the future direction of the registry and the registry work group. Wanda, Dudley, or I would be happy to answer any questions concerning this meeting. Thanks, Ronny --------------------------
