Guest guest
I made a big pot of beef stew. I also made a quadruple batch of bread today so used some of the dough to make bread bowls for the stew. I hadn't made white bread in years but I had to this time because I was out of whole wheat flour. Even though it wasn't my usual wheat bread it was pretty darned good:)hugs to all SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Sounds great! We had a less fancy dinner. But good just the same. We were in Malmoe, for a movie night with our neighbor and her friend from work (who is the one living in Malmoe, obviously our neighbor doesn't...). Getting there was a lot more hassle and time consuming than usual, due mostly to the fact that our train was held up by police for about an hour halfway between our station and Malmoe. It had to do with an incident of violence against the train conductor. Nothing overly serious, but unfortunately it did turn our train into a crime scene that had to be processed... Anyway, that meant we were close to two hours late when we did arrive at our neighbor's friend's place. We therefor declined his offer to cook for us, because we were extremely hungry by then and wanted food FAST. We all went for pizza instead. But it was a good pizza place, They had 's favorite (with salami and olives), and I tried a pizza with bacon and artichoke, that was good too. And we did let our host bake a chocolate cake, kladdkaka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kladdkaka , for dessert, which was absolutely excellent. Apparently he is well known at work for his kitchen skills in general, and his baking in particular.Tonight we'll do a pasta carbonara, sort of, with prosciutto and walnuts. love/Reb>> I made a big pot of beef stew. Guest guest
Yummy Sharon We always well always used to get a large loaf of Italian bread from the store bakery if we were doing the Beef Stew.. though none of us were brave enough to attempt the stew from scratch.. Dinty had to do.. But there's nothing better than fresh warm bread with.. stew.. or veggie soup.. or even chili.. and 's been using his "bread machine" recently.. well to make the bread.. but last week he just allowed it to mix his dough, so that he could make buns for lunches.. He has been told, by co-workers & boss.. he needs to make more!.. LOL.. Never thought to make "bowls" out of the bread.. Just how do you get them to stand up or whatever it is you do to shape them? Guest guest
Beef stew from scratch is easy hun...and for a yummy twist, I put in a large, chopped up purple cabbage (about an hour before serving), makes "purple stew" and the cabbage makes it even yummier!. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Re: what was for dinner? Guest guest
oops... didn't mean to hit send:)I just form small round loaves of dough and place them on grease cookie sheets. They keep their nice round form just fine. When baked I slice off a little of top and then hollow the "bowl" out a bit for the soup to go in. It works out well:) SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Cabbage & purple definitely work for me.. on the other hand.. him don't want no cabbage in anything but his cole slaw.. He doesn't do ham, cabbage & potatoes or the other one.. has fresh green beans in it.. don't give him cabbage rolls (he'll eat the porcupine balls if you put them in there though).. don't put cabbage in his veggie soup either.. And I used to tease him that he made vegetable "stew"... not vegetable "soup".. cause it was always thick.. soup is supposed to be thin, thin, thin.. LOL.. Guess I'll give stew a try one of these days.. I'll have to watch for the cheap roast to go on sale and be even cheaper.. Beef stew without a BUNCH of beef in it.. would be.. umm.. well Vegetable Stew.. LOL HUGS |)onna Beef stew from scratch is easy hun...and for a yummy twist, I put in a large, chopped up purple cabbage (about an hour before serving), makes "purple stew" and the cabbage makes it even yummier!. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -------Original Message------- From: |)onna Date: 11/8/2010 1:15:18 PM To: MSersLife Subject: Re: what was for dinner? Guest guest
Thanks Sharon I'm going to have give that a try next time he mixes up the dough to make buns.. he can save some of that dough to make the bowls.. and then we can figure out what to put in them.. be it stew, soup, ooo.. some kind of scrambled egg medley concotion.. I can think of a few things... OOOO.. I think it's Red Lobster, but I could be wrong.. but somebody makes some kind of bread bowl, puts some type of cheesy sauce in the bowl, and place the hollowed out pieces of the bread on the platter with the bowl.. for dipping and eating.. Bet it would be good with a Velveeta cheese sauce, but I'd have to add something like bacon and/or broccoli to that mixture.. but eww.. Can you tell I'm hungry now? LOL HUGS |)onna oops... didn't mean to hit send:) I just form small round loaves of dough and place them on grease cookie sheets. They keep their nice round form just fine.
