Guest guest
Does anyone have any good public education material on EMS that they'd be willing to share?? Just today, I had to convince an educated coworker (he's an IT guru) to call 911 for his wife's sudden aphasia.? His question was " Why do I need an ambulance?? I can get her to the ER. " ? I had to explain what we can do in terms of early notification to the appropriate hospital. If someone has some material that could be adapted, I'd love to see it. Guest guest
Is my memory failing me or does GETAC still have an I & E (informationo and education) committee? TDH used to have one, and it even got a public service thing done once, I think. Is the committee still there? I know there's, of course, no MONEY for public information and education, since our dear lawmakers had rather spend leptillions of dollars fixing things after they go wrong than spending a little to prevent morbidity and mortality. Kick a legislator for lunch. Gene G. Doctor: Well, I have some bad news. You've had a pretty bad stroke, and you also have Alzheimer's. Patient: Oh, thank God. I was afraid I had had a stroke. > > > Wes, > > I would also check out the AHA's website, for STEMI's there is research out > there...for my STEMI lecture, I found studies showing it saves anywhere from > 25 to 50 minutes from Door to Balloon if the patient calls 911 over walking > in to the ER...here is one article out of Oregon... > > http://www.thehearthttp://www.thhttp://ww > > and > > http://www.ncbi.http://www.nhttp://www.ncbi.http://www.nc > > Dudley > > Public Education > > Does anyone have any good public education material on EMS that they'd > be willing to share?? Granted, this can also happen to EMS vehicles, but use of emergency warning devices might have prevented the crash. , Director Seminole EMS 302 S. Guest guest
And this my friends is why our education efforts even has to start with our peers in the healthcare industry.? I can tell you from my work in the STEMI world, cardiologists have no idea of the capabilities of EMS overall, and it extends throughout a large percentage of the health care world.? The trauma folks know us because they have been working with us for years...the others do not and we need to start working to educate them... They have been changing like crazy...and WE have been changing and advancing like crazy... The true tragedy is that a member of the healthcare system felt it would be better to put herself and child at risk over calling an ambulance...we have work to do!
