Below is information about MedStar EMS: MedStar EMS is the exclusive 9-1-1 provider for the City of Fort Worth and the Client Cities of Blue Mound, Burleson, Edgecliff, Forest Hill, Haltom City, Haslet, Lakeside, Lake Worth, River Oaks, Sansom Park, Saginaw, Westover Hills, Westworth Village, and White Settlement. Our system is the 18th largest in the nation, with an annual operating budget in excess of 22 million dollars. We also provide interfacility ground transportation, local non-emergent response, Mounted EMS Team, Bike Team, and special event EMS for the annual Stockshow and Rodeo, NASCAR/IRL races, and concerts. Paramedics function under the Medical Direction of Dr. Griswell and the Emergency Physician's Advisory Board (EPAB). Advanced skills include 12 Lead EKG, Capnography, Crash Airway (pharmacologically assisted intubation), and a current ROC study (study on increased sodium infusion on trauma patients). There is a good mix of medical and trauma calls that provide a vast array of patient care challenges which sharpen the skills of the medics in a high-performance environment. Initial compensation offers are based on years of direct experience, and employees are eligible for annual merit increases based on Performance Appraisals. MedStar provides employees excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage (employee is paid for by MedStar), as well as flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program, life insurance, and short term and long-term disability coverage. An excellent 401a retirement plan is offered along with a 457 plan, and generous vacation, holiday, and sick time is provided. Currently, there are over 300 employees supporting this operation, the vast majority of which are EMT's and Paramedics. Clinical and educational support is provided for all full-time and part-time employees, including an in-house Paramedic program, Instructor Methodology course, Cadaver labs, quarterly continuing education opportunities, card classes for ACLS, PHTLS, PPC, AMLS, GEMS, and others. Each ambulance is generally staffed with a Paramedic and an EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Basic, although there are occasionally dual Paramedic units.
