Guest guest
Here's an eye opener from another list. " Authorities ticketed an Iowa EMT yesterday for a February crash that killed a school teacher and injured four others. The ambulance, with lights and siren activated, struck the teachers vehicle and then a minivan. The EMT driver was among those hurt in the crash....she had violated state law that allows emergency vehicles to " proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation. " The ticket carries a $35 fine....but opens the door wide open for civil action. Authorities said a more serious charge would have required authorities to prove that the EMT drove recklessly (intentionally). STOP AT RED LIGHTS & STOP SIGNS... don't go thru this. " The difference between ordinary negligence and reckless conduct (gross negligence) can be small. This medic could easily have been charged with negligent homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and so forth. GG ************** It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & amp; Finance.
