This is interesting. Does anyone have any additional info on eating red meat to

recover from salmonella poisoning?

***whoops! guess I should have been more explicit. the doc didn't recommend

red meat in order to recover from *salmonella* poisoning, but moreso from my

extremely weakened state. You have to realize my body was so drained from

this illness. I had a fever of over 105, and a blood pressure of 50 over 0.

I'm not kidding. She told me it was the bp of a corpse! great bedside

manner, that doctor. anyway, as you can imagine, i needed food that was

going to bring me back from this state, and the doc felt red meat was it. In

retrospect, I agree!

In all the " old " literature (Pre WW2) , red meat is considered the cure-all

for " getting strength back " for sickly people. And broths, cream, raw eggs,

and raw liver (sound familiar). Also hot toddies (red wine with honey and

lemon juice). My mother got VERY sick every winter, circa 1930's, with

pneumonia, pre-antibiotics, and she got doctored a lot. It's really

interesting to see how they treated people before medicine got popular.

My grandfather, in his autobiography, said he was happy being a servant in

a castle in that " in the castle, we got meat every day " (while on the farm

they were often living on potatoes, oatmeal, and some fat). I'd guess that

the doctors noticed that the 'rich' folks and their servants were healthier

than their poor counterparts.
