Guest guest
I thought I would have better news from my latest A1C numbers but they are up some. I just do not understand. I have had a change in meds and most of the testing I have done have been fairly good since taking the meds. The new numbers are 7.7 now that has greatly improved since first finding out that I am Type 2 it was 14.7 the second time I had the A1C done it was 7.3. I just do not what to do. I have not lost any weight since October. In fact I have gained that is why after much complaining the doctor agreed to change my meds. Now my weight is stable and that is sure better than gaining. I have been to diabetic nurse and dietician which I did not care for. Guess I will keep plugging along until I see the doctor in three weeks. Maybe he will have some other ideas for me. I have higher numbers first thing in the morning. Today my fasting numbers were 134 and then just about an hour ago it was 81 approx 2 hours after I have had lunch. My lunch is later in the after noon with a later dinner. My life stlye around my husband job. I sure hope one day I get a grip on this cause Lord knows I have been trying so hard since mid October. Thanks for letting me vent. (IN)

That is major progress! It sounds to me like your post-meal numbers are pretty good (81 is excellent) but your fasting number is high. That could explain the high A1C; even if you're in great control throughout the day, that 7-9 hours (or however long you sleep) overnight is a long chunk of time for your blood sugar to be running high. Talk to your doctor about it; there are definitely treatment options that can help you with a high fasting number. You might also want to experiment with a bedtime snack. If you aren't having one, try having one with a small amount of carbohydrate and protein in it (cheese and crackers, for example) and see if that helps. If you are having a snack, see if cutting down the carbs in it or upping the protein in it helps. Just remember, every day that you take your meds and eat a healthy diet and keep your numbers from soaring to where they were before you were diagnosed is a day that your body is healthier than it was before. Definitely keep trying to get those numbers down, but don't kick yourself! You are doing the right things. Ask your doctor in three weeks what he thinks you should do to get those numbers down even further. You are doing great. Molly
Guest guest
, my story is different than yours but my feelings are the same. I am new at this and I am having a lot of trouble with this new way of eating even though I am doing it. Lots of tantrums about what I can't eat, when I can or can't eat, whether or not to test my BS# after a meal or new food, what exercise is exercise and what exercise my body considers stress. It is getting to be too much even though I've been able to loose about 30 lbs in about 4 months which is good for my health and my ego. I had no idea I could do this and I worry about when it will stop as suddenly as it started (my discipline I mean). I also become confused as to what is 'ok' in terms of numbers, what I should aim for and if for crying out loud I can't eat anything I really want to anymore, why shouldn't I just go for lower numbers? It is so confusing. Especially with a diabetic hubby on meds when I am doing this through diet and he is telling me different stuff than I read on this wonderful list and hear from my endo team. as I often say: ah life, right???? Hang in with me. tomorrow is another day. So what if I had 4 hunt's gelatins and 8 T of cool whip today. It was in my calories and my carbs count. sigh...... My high A1C was 13.8! :-) You've had a great drop in your numbers... sometimes it just takes time. Remember an A1C is an average over 3 MONTHS. So if you had your meds changed less than 3 months ago, it won't reflect what your current situation is. It's 3 months and it's always historical. If your daily numbers are showing improvement since your last Rx change, and continue to remain so, you should see a lower A1C next time around. It will just depend on how much of this last test was with the new med setup. It takes a while, and can take many different changes in meds before the right combinations and dosages are discovered. Hang in there.. Mike

Thanks Molly, My fasting numbers have always been high. I am seeing better numbers now than I was before the doctor changed my meds. Maybe by vacation time they will be down where I thought they may have been this time. I will try to remember that I am better than I was in mid October. This is just one day at a time and I have learned much through this wonderful group. (IN)
Guest guest
Lots of tantrums about what I can't eat Hi Judith, Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I keep saying just one more hot fudge sundae etc.. If I would eat what I see some with diabetes eat I would never had the numbers come down to where they are. Sometimes I get so jealous of them but then I think I could have been worse than they were when it found. My hubby is not diabetic but very good to eat what I should be eating he could stand to drop a few pounds too but so far he is not diabetic though it does run in his family. You are right about the stress and number should I do this and that. My numbers stayed pretty good when we lost my Dad three months ago. I guess that is cause I really made myself stay with the eating right the best I could at that time. Congradulations on the weight loss that is terrific ! I will hang in there with you I have lots to hang in there and for and every day I keep telling myself that. Thanks again. (IN)

Thanks Mike, Well I hate to be the winner of high numbers but I am pleased they are at least cut in half. I sure appreciate the reminder. It has only been nine weeks on the new meds. I did have some higher numbers before he changed my meds. I suppose it would have been worse if I had gone in a month like I really should have. Kept forgetting not eat breakfast. I will be grateful for these numbers and go to better ones in another three months. I sure appreciate all the help. (IN)

Guest guest
Stopping worrying. I think you will see a bigger drop in your next A1c. Eunice, Thank you for the wonderful support. I hope they are better next time. My fast number was a bit better this morning. My after lunch BG was 91 some different than yesterday. I am a fighter so I work at this with all that I have to get some good A1C numbers. (IN)
