Guest guest
Hi Cait, Thank you. As I wrote in my message to nne, the pine needle basketry is something that I can do when I'm laying in bed. I have sold two 13 inch covered baskets, both were purchased by the same woman. I had given her a quote of $35-50 and realized after I had completed the baskets that I should have made my quote higher. I am fairly new to the art for sale world. I did a painting of a little girl who is the granddaughter of one of the circulation assistants at our local library. It was the first one I did of a child and it was the first one I did in color. I offered the painting to the library assistant for $35 and gave her permission to go up or down from there. So, she told me that she was thinking more of $50. I use high quality watercolor paints and try to buy them in sets or on sale. One of the moderators of the watercolor group told me that the paints that I chose to work with are like the Rolls Royce of the watercolor world. There is a fairly new art gallery in town. I think they have been open for about a year. I have gone there to look at the art. Some of the art is pretty good. But, the prices the various artists have put on their works, is way beyond what I would be willing to pay. When I look at a painting, I have to check the color harmony. Also, if the focal point is smack dab in the middle of the painting, will make me wonder why the artist has the $1000 price tag. If I want to sell my artwork, whether it is baskets or paintings, I have to keep the current economy in mind. When the economy is rough, then people are not as easily persuaded to part with their money for artwork. Donna in WA
