Guest guest
Hi again!I was just looking at melatonin for my 5 year old and 2 year old (43lbs and 30lbs). Does anyone know dosages for this age/weight? Is Pure Encapsulations a good one? Many thanks,
Guest guest
My son weighed around 60 lbs last year when his dan put him on 3 mg of melatonin. That was the starting dose and it did the wonders for us especially in sleep maintenance. I have used both prothera and thorne. Currently I am using Thorne melatonin 3 mg and it does not contain aspartic acid. I terms of induction and maintenance of sleep, I didn't see any differences. If my son is not going thru any crazy stuff like phenol sensitivity, clostridia or yeast flare, melatonin really helps but we still get some crazy nights especially when he gets extra phenols. is > > Hi again! > > I was just looking at melatonin for my 5 year old and 2 year old (43lbs and 30lbs). Guest guest
Untrue. What they are saying is that melatonin is a hormone which is true. But it's perfectly safe to take long term but you may find that it stops being effective. When this happens you just stop taking it for a week or two and then restart.melatonin is a hormone that only affects circadium rhythm/sleep cycles. ~ Antiviral Therapy 101~ gryffinstail.wordpress.com ~~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ My son is also on 3mg melatonin..Just heard that melatonin is not good long term for hormonal reasons, has anyone heard this and thoughts plsSandiSent from my iPad My son weighed around 60 lbs last year when his dan put him on 3 mg of melatonin. Guest guest
I would not recommend starting with 3mg mostly because they don't generally need that high a dose. Start with 1 mg or even .5 mg and work your way up every night until your child falls asleep within 20 minutes. when that happens, then you've found the proper dose. It can be anywhere between .5 and 5mg but will likely be 1-2 mg. ~ Antiviral Therapy 101~ gryffinstail.wordpress.com ~~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ Hi again!I was just looking at melatonin for my 5 year old and 2 year old (43lbs and 30lbs). Guest guest
My son took it for two years and then I learned by my bio med doc that it is NOT safe for developing children. I would not take the chance. There is already so much to deal with...creating another problem long term is not a good idea in my opinion. Guest guest
I second Kerri.May be you want to go through the following articles. They used Natrol in the study but it said somewhere (if not in the articles, the articles they refer to) that long term use is not recommended, hence I decided not to use it for my son. I have enough issues to deal with, don't want to add more. http://www.autismspeaks.org/science/science-news/melatonin-shows-promise-improving-sleep-problems-children-autism http://www.autismspeaks.org/science/science-news/more-evidence-melatonin-eases-autism-associated-insomnia Noel My son took it for two years and then I learned by my bio med doc that it is NOT safe for developing children.
