Guest guest
Boost for 'Bag a Bra' campaign MORE than 94,000 bras have been collected to help raise funds which will be used to save lives – but more are needed. Since the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity introduced its 'Bag It Up' bra campaign 18 months ago, women have been donating unwanted bras. Sue Bellamy, of Brief Encounter, West Park Street, Brighouse, took part in the appeal and helped to collect 15,000 bras which have raised £300 for the Air Ambulance. She said: " I collect the old bras to boost the Air Ambulance campaign and with having a bra shop it's the obvious collection point. " They will be re-sold to second-hand clothing markets in the UK and overseas. Second-hand bras are particularly in demand in West Africa, where traders can buy and sell used garments at affordable prices. Sue said it didn't matter what type of bras people donate; they can be any style as long as they are usable. Louise Knapton, Yorkshire Air Ambulance commercial director, said: " Our aim is to collect 200,000 bras. If we reach this target then the Yorkshire Air Ambulance will get £10,000 to pay for more than 30 lifesaving missions. " Anyone who wants to donate good quality bras should send them to Yorkshire Air Ambulance Bag It Up campaign, Tradehouse, Calder Street, West Vale, Greetland, Halifax, HX4 8AQ, or simply drop them in at Brief Encounter in Brighouse between Tuesday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
