Guest guest
You got it Sharon!!! I have been known to be a slug-a-bed.. and I really have NO problem with it.. LOL.. Especially in the winter.. cover me in quilts up to my chin and let me stay toasty warm in the bed!!!.. so long as someone parks the laptop next to me in the bed.. It's all right as rain!!! And .. catch a few ZZZ's for me while you're at it.. I could have napped awhile ago.. but pushed on through to make sure I got the email cleaned up.. and now of course.. I'm not needing a nap.. (give me another 10 minutes though.. LOL that could change).. HUGS |)onna Yes, MS is a disease of many changes for most of us! I hope you continue to feel better and better. Just take it easy and rest when you need to and sleep when you want:) hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. The nurse said to try taking it just at night because of the sleepies. I did take a pill this morning because I was feeling so bad. I do feel better tonight, but I know it's time for anther dose. I love your other post....there is always hope even if some days feel like there isn't. Tomorrow is a new day, and with MS, each one can be very different. Only someone with MS really gets that! Re: question about spasms The meds for spasms can bring a whole new set of problems unfortunately. The worst side effect for me was the groggy/sleepy 'out-of-it' feeling. Dan mentioned feeling depressed from taking baclofen. How are you doing today? Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Baclofen caused my legs to turn to jello. Even at its lowest dose. When I went to Dr. Swank he put me on a low dose of Valium and told me to take 1 every 4 hrs. [2-1/2 mgs] it worked great and I've been on it for over 11 years. My spasticity has progressed now, but if it flares really bad I can up my dose and that takes care of it with minimal side effects. Maybe a little drowsy, but not bad. Most Dr's don't like to give out valium because of the overdosing and over prescribing of it back in the '70's, and they say its highly addictive. For me its a lifesaver for the times my spasms get bad. Its fast working too, and that stops the pain sooner. There are some days I don't have to take as much and I don't feel any type of addiction. [withdrawal] I've tried all the other types of muscle relaxants and none of them even touch the spasms. So I stick with what works for me and I was told by another Dr. that some of the older meds are better because they have had a chance to be on the market longer and the side effects are known. Guest guest
I think that Dr. Swank retired in the 1980s, though lived to age 96.Dennis Bourdette, M.D. is now head of the MS clinic--very good, too.Love, nTo: MSersLife Sent: Fri, November 19, 2010 12:32:01 PMSubject: Re: question about spasms You saw Dr. Swank also Jackie? Guest guest
I plan to be off Baclofen totally. My doctor said to me that I was doing better than most people with it, so I asked "why's that?" and his reply was " because you're ON it" Meaning , many people can't be....... But now I see, that IT was causing me more health problems than it was curing.......... Guest guest
Jen, I'm tickled that you'll be weaned today.. Int (intentional there) it funny how one thing will work for 1 person but not the next, then something else does the same thing.. Hmm.. and it's also funny how things work for us differently than they do for people who don't have MS... When gets these neck spasms (he was t-boned in a car accident years ago, and has had neck problems and headaches ever since).. and I can't work the muscle out with massage.. or brushing his hair (that does work for him most of the time.. go figure) I'll tell him to take a half of 1 of my Baclofen.. should work.. he tells me he'll take it when he's ready for bed.. cause it's going to knock him out.. it will stop the neck spasm but he'll be out like a light.. even if he breaks the half in half and take a quarter of a 10 mg pill (so 2 1/2 milligrams) he's ready for bed just shortly after taking it.. He came home tired one evening.. was even more tired when he woke up in the morning.. (it was one of those weeks, that happen once or twice a year, at the funeral home where they're having 1 to 2 funerals a day for a week, sometimes two).. and by the middle of the week he was soooo exhausted.. So I said.. take a half of a Provigil.. it works for my fatigue.. it should work for you too.. Unfortunately, for him.. it DID wake him up.. wherein I can take a half a Provigil in the afternoon and still be able to lay down and go to sleep at night... Needless to say he wasn't really very happy with me, when it was two nights later that he was actually able to fall asleep and stay that way.. He doesn't take anything I offer him anymore.. except the Baclofen, and when that happens I know he's in tremendous pain.. But it's still strange how these things work.. Guest guest
I have always thought it was stupid for doctors to be hesitant to prescribe valium but willing to give so many other, much worse, drugs.hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
