Guest guest
Our daughter in law more than likely has Huntington disease. She will find out the 24th. Google it sometime, its a horrible disease and hereditary. Her father and some other relatives have died from it already. She is able to work a day or two a week but when this progresses that will be impossible. Are they any other benefits you get when you apply for disability? Someone told me that their daughter would get some sort of compensation but I find that hard to believe. Any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi nne, If she has enough work credits in a certain time frame, she would qualify for SSDI and Medicare. If she doesn't, then she would qualify for SSI and Medicaid. I think it also depends on where she lives how much she gets. I live in WA and get less than $800 a month for my SSDI. I also get Medicare and Medicare only Medicaid. The Medicaid only covers the premiums and co-pays for whatever Medicare covers. Medicare will cover my vision exams, apparently; but, it doesn't cover eyewear. If she only qualifies for SSI, then her income would be dependent upon the income of anybody she might live with in the same household. As in a family or couple situation. The best thing to do is for her to apply for disability and be prepared to be denied the first go around. Most people get denied with the initial application. There is a process to go through. I remember reading about somebody with terminal CA that got denied disability after going through the process; but, passed away before his disability was ever awarded. Guest guest
hi marianne, here is the federal govt website page that discusses the subject in general: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/disability/ this page discusses social security if you become disabled: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/dibplan/index.htm this page discusses supplimental security income: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ssi/ remember, if she files for disability and is denied, she can appeal thru an attorney. (who specializes in social security disability claims - which can be found in your yellow pages of the phone book.) once she is awarded disability (the attorneys will take a percentage) she will receive retro/back funds. she will receive all the funds that should have been awarded her, from when they should have awarded, not denied, her disability. good luck. fill out all of the required paperwork with details and with much thought put into each answer. it will be a long and arduous process but well worth it when done. have her save a copy of everything she submits. diva > > Our daughter in law more than likely has Huntington disease. Guest guest
I don't know if Huntingtons is like Muscular Dystrophy or not in that genetic testing can identify carriers. I have three adult nephews with MD. Their four sisters and then the nephew's daughters had genetic testing to see if they were carriers. With this kind of MD it's only the males that have MD and the females can be carriers. I understand from you that Huntington's can hit both males and females. It's a shame that your son wasn't told before there were children involved. big hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
I am not sure what the other relatives were that had Huntington disease but I know Terry's father is the one that had it and now more than likely Terry.
