Guest guest
Hi there! My son started on VSL 3 three months ago and from what I am gathering from posts, is to use a strep free probiotic blend. Incidentally, in recent labs, his anti-streptolysin level was significantly high at 400 with the norm <250. Looking back through past labs only 6 months prior, his anti-streptolysin was <100. I am wondering if the sudden onset of increase could be due to the pro-biotic or if he came in contact with strep pior to testing. Guest guest
This is only an hypothesis but Owens on the oxalate group has hypothesized that possiblyoxalate crystals form around strep bacteria and get trapped there.... and since VSL#3 is one of the onlyprobiotics proven in trials to degrade oxalate, perhaps that is why the PANDAS/strep-like symptoms when dumping. Apparently there have been other bacteria that have been shown to become trapped inoxalate crystals. My daughter is now being homeschooled and we are going to give VSL#3 a shot. I was worried before since she can have PANDAS-like symptoms however never showed a high level.Maybe I should have her strep lab pulled right before and then while using to see if we see the same thing! Guest guest
Or could that be due to very high bacterial count in VSL#3. May be you could try something with lower bacterial count like Benebiotics or Florastor. Hi there! Yes, We were on Metagenics ultra flor plus for years with no problems and our DAN doc changed it and I never felt right about this probiotic. Just my Mommy radar going off, I guess. Guest guest
Here is another option for a high potency probiotic that contains oxalate degrading bacteria, but does not have the strep strain. It was designed to be a VSL#3 alternative. We have been receiving good feedback from people who have tried it.http://www.nbnus.net/shopexd.asp?id=456 Lori Lori KnowlesGeneral Manager and Director (and Mom of age 13, recovered)New Beginnings Nutritionals7797 Quivira, Lenexa, KS 66216 x205 | Fax: www.NBNUS.com | Facebook Re: VSL 3 probiotics feedback PLEASE Posted by: " Noel Mathur " noelmathur@...
