Guest guest
Thanks for the info Kate, I was wondering about that.. However.. I am home.. no 3-5 infusion.. Did get to meet a bunch of ladies at the infusion center, that has over 200 participants! It was decided.. after taking me to the normal eye chart.. and he was kind of chuckling when I got down to line 20, and read them off with my right eye.. and to line 15 with my left eye.. guess with my glasses, that I keep thinking need the script changed in them, I have 20/20 in the right eye, and 20/15 in the left! Some acuity is gone in the right eye, because of he did see damage to the optical nerve in the right eye, no damage to the left, but then the O.N. hasn't ever really been bad or lasted long in that eye.. I'm not color-blind, nor have I lost, is the word acuity for colors too?.. well in any case I picked all the numbers out of all those dots he showed me.. some took me a few seconds longer to identify than others.. but since I got them all.. can't have lost anything in that area..I guess But it's been decided.. and he saw no signs of optic neuritis in either eye.. that I'm having migraines...he gave the type a name.. it was a long one (and I gotta research backwards to find the name now), but it was treated with a Solumedrol push today, one dose, then I get a pill.. he didn't name it, but listed the ingredients.. Aspirin, Caffeine & a narcotic, didn't name the narcotic though, and the script wasn't there for to pick up when he stopped tonight.. so I've got to check Walgreen's tomorrow.. because I'm going to bet that they sent that script there... so they might have used the wrong number or the wrong part of the company for the script.. My Copoxone comes out of Walgreen's specialty pharmacy.. and I've got a hunch that's where they called sent the script. I did google the ingredients he gave me (aspirin, caffeine & a narcotic) and came up with Fiorinal for the ingredients.. it comes with either Butasomething or other.. or Codeine for the narcotic.. don't know which I'm getting.. He told me I could start out for the first 2 or 3 days, taking 1 pill every 2 to 4 hours the first day (I think... will have to run that one by ) then every 4 hours until this stops.. then IF it occurs, or maybe I should say when it happens, again, then I start the process all over again.. they will be on an "as needed" basis. And I guess from what I read, either in "Neurology Now" or maybe it was a website this evening.. the neuro-ophthalmology specialty is something fairly new.. and migraines aren't just for vice requesting people anymore.. it looks like there are about 12 different types of migraines.. and not all of them require a vice for relief.. I will post links when I figure it out all, and then the links I've found that look reliable for their info.. so that everyone can now be aware of this development.. unless of course I'm actually the last person in the group to become aware of the different types of migraines... <grin>.. HUGS |)onna Hey Donna, Little story for you...believe it or not, when I was put on a 3 or 5 day infusion of solumedrol, they hooked me up at home. A nurse came in and started the line; showed me how to flush it with heparin and all the other details, and left me on my own to do it. Apparently, I can only guess, that the insurance wouldn't cover her to come in every day, or for a stay at the hospital. I freaked out. Fortunately, there was a oncology nurse that lived down the street at the time, and I kept asking her to check on what I was doing, and give me a hand. She was shocked that they left me to do this. So, count yourself lucky if they admit you! Let us know what happens, ok? I hope you are feeling better real soon. love and hugs, Kate From: |)onna To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, November 17, 2010 3:00:28 PM Subject: Re: Another run in with O.N. Thanks Sharon, And after talking to my neuro-nurse.. she said that doc won't treat unless he's got confirmation that it is O.N. from an ophthalmologist.. (guess a couple of docs got burned -- not sure what she meant, unless they didn't verify the O.N. and the person receiving the IV steroids was fibbing to get them.. and that's a good possibility in that area as well).. but once it's confirmed that it is O.N. he will start the Solumedrol.... Turns out that a neuro-ophthalmologist just joined the "team" recently, and he has an opening tomorrow morning.. as does Doctor .. so I guess I'll be seeing both.. and once Doctor Zayden (ZY-den) confirms, guess Doctor will be sending me to the Infusion Center for the 1st round and then we'll puzzle out the rest of the rounds of treatment.. Hopefully if they are going to do a three day thing with the Solumedrol, they will keep me.. (not that I'm wanting a stay in the hospital) and take care of the treatments that way, rather than me having to figure out how to get in to Pittsburgh every day for these infusions.. The bright side is that if there's inflammation in my back causing the pain that's there between my shoulder blades, again.. and the definite inflammation that's in my knee.. They will all get a nice kick in the read and be on their way shortly.. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome.. I'll load up my laptop and take it with me.. and that way, since the hospital offers wi-fi.. I can still keep in touch.. HUGS |)onna I'm sorry, Donna. Guest guest
Thanks nne... Still waiting for the prescription though.. stopped at the pharmacy last evening, they hadn't received it.. I called this morning.. they still hadn't received it.. I also called the Neurology Nurse to see if she could figure out what happened or where it went.. waiting to hear from her, but probably won't hear from her until this afternoon sometime. Got to actually put a face with the voice yesterday, when she dropped into the infusion center for something with someone else. Very nice lady.. very busy lady as well.. but she does return calls as quickly as she can.. Here's to hoping the script gets somewhere today though.. Guest guest
Sharon, I think the new guy is pretty thorough, and I'm happy that he joined the group.. at least I KNOW that should I have another bout of O.N. (which was a relief yesterday, finding out it wasn't actually.. though I'm still a little baffled on the migraine thing) they WILL be doing something about it immediately rather than letting it run it's course.. waiting for it to just go away on it's own.. Still eye-achy-head-ache type thing.. but the 2 Advil seems to have taken care of that for at least the moment.. there was a mess up with where the script for Esgic (I think she spelled it.. oh.. memory is really really short these past couple of days).. and it was faxed to the wrong pharmacy, but having a narcotic as part of the combo drug.. it can't be faxed anyway.. has to be either hand carried or called in.. so she's calling it into the correct pharmacy today.. Oh... and another tid-bit for you.. maybe.. kinda.. might not mean a thing.. but another type of "migraine".. sounds an awful lot like, and may actually be diagnosed as Trigeminal Neuralgia.. and it's a migraine stemming from CNS damage.. I need to start bookmarking these pages that I'm reading.. so that when I start to say something about what I've read, I can point out where I read it.. Guest guest
I'm trying to find, once again, the exact place I read that Trigeminal Neuralgia is considered a Trigeminal Migraine... Not much luck, so far.. but I know I read it somewhere... I don't think this is the site that I actually "found" the original stuff on.. but it's a little closer than I was 15 minutes ago.. LOL http://www.headaches.org/education/Headache_Topic_Sheets/Migraine and this paragraph from that page does sound(ish) about right too: Quote: The pain of migraine occurs when excited brain cells trigger the trigeminal nerve to release chemicals that irritate and cause swelling of blood vessels on the surface of the brain. These swollen blood vessels send pain signals to the brainstem, an area of the brain that processes pain information. The pain of migraine is a referred pain that is typically felt around the eye or temple area. Pain can also occur in the face, sinus, jaw or neck area. Once the attack is full-blown, many people will be sensitive to anything touching their head. Activities such as combing their hair or shaving may be painful or unpleasant. Unquote: And unfortunately, the longer I look and the more I read.. The more I become convinced that that nobody really knows anything about any of this stuff.. Though some of the groups theorize that Ocular Migraines may be stemming from the Trigeminal Nerve. And when looking at the diagrams, one can see the three branches of that nerve, and understand from whence the theory of a Trigeminal Migraine came... I'm trying hard, these days, to not end my sentences in a preposition.. I'm finding this task very difficult at times.. LOL HUGS |)onna I would be interested in seeing what you have found about TN. hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Thanks Kate, I added a new bookmark folder to my browser.. for MonSter related stuffs.. and I added that link to that folder.. Now maybe I won't lose things, (all the while thinking that my memory is the same as it always was.. even though I know better than that.. and think I will remember where I saw what).. Question remains, though, Is it MS related memory loss, or Old Age related memory loss.. or some combination of both? LOL I took Advil this morning for the headache.. I'm just still not too overly thrilled with taking the pills prescribed because of the narcotic in them.. However, if the Advil doesn't do the trick in half an hour or so.. I'll break down and take the other pill.. then I'll either sit around and babble.. or lay down and take a nap.. When I'm not in BP & M mode.. doesn't mind my babbling.. other times I've found him looking through his tool box for that rubber mallet he has.. > LOL HUGS |)onna http://www.umanitoba.ca/cranial_nerves/trigeminal_neuralgia/index.htm Hey Donna, this is my favorite site for info regarding trigeminal neuralgia. Feels like I've got a bout of O.N. going now, in both eyes, with the right being a little worse than the left.. No light show, as of yet, only the pain/soreness involved so far. Maybe a touch of double vision, haven't decided on that yet. Hopefully the nurse will have a script called into the pharmacy rather than turning into the guy from The Price is Right saying "Come on Down!".. HUGS |)onna -- Help Feed The Critters!
