Guest guest
Hi everyone, My son was doing great till yesterday with his patience, waiting for his turn, academic work, and was overall very pleasant. I was so happy yesterday and today he came back a little anxious from school. The changes I made were I went up on the epa/dha dose. Then at school, they were making some fun cakes with sandwich bread and since he is on a special diet, teacher made one for him on his rice crispy cake which he usually tolerates. But he had strawberry and banana dried chips, raisins and fresh banana during the party and I feel like this is phenol sensitivity. He didn't have any digestive enzymes at school. Could it be related to going up on dose of epa/dha or it is just too much phenol? Thanks in advance for any help. is

Guest guest
In my house it would definitely be the salicylates in the strawberries and raisins. Because you are not sure, if I were you I would drop back to your regular dose of EPA/DHA and wait until he is back to baseline and then try to increase again. Hopefully nothing else will happen on the same day again! I hate that - when two changes inadvertently take place on the same day and you don't know what's to blame! I hope he feels better soon! Guest guest
Thanks Channa and Cathy! Another issue is that I am supposed to start fluconazole tonight/tomorrow(yeast flare). I gave him 11/2 dose of nophenol and epsom salt foot soak. He is calm now. Will see till tomorrow and if things seem better then will start it. I will reduce the fish oil dose but I have a strong feeling that it is phenol/salicylate issue. Probably that was the reason he could never tolerate natural remedies like Ole etc. is > > > > Hi everyone, > > My son was doing great till yesterday with his patience, waiting for his turn, academic work, and was overall very pleasant. I found some this weekend that were just a couple ingredients, nothing weird. Oh but raisins are bad here too. Guest guest
I use Brothers apple, pear, banana and strawberry chips. They are freeze dried fruits without any other ingredients. I get it from costco and each box contains 10 apple chips, 5 pear and 5 banana+strawberry chips so mostly he gets apple chips. I cannot find many healthy snack options for school and teachers keep asking me for snack reinforcers. I have stopped using potato chips, fruit juices. Would love to get some new snack ideas for school especially organic ones. is > > > ** > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > My son was doing great till yesterday with his patience, waiting for his > > turn, academic work, and was overall very pleasant. Guest guest
How do you explain this to the school? They think that mouthing that my son has is related to being hungry and he needs frequent snacks. I have been using food allergies, acid reflux as the reasons for not sending too many snacks. I sometimes have to use my profession and some medical jargon to influence them otherwise they can simply state that I am starving my child by not sending in any juices or chips. Honestly speaking, I would actually deliver fresh vegetable juice to the school if it was closer but it takes at least 20 minutes to get to the school. Thanks for the ideas . I need to make a trip to whole foods. I think this thread should now be called " Looking for healthy snack ideas " . is > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > My son was doing great till yesterday with his patience, waiting for his > > > turn, academic work, and was overall very pleasant. Guest guest
Thanks for your post, my son has also had a sudden increase in anger and general annoyance. I haven't been able to figure it out. Just in the last week he has had a new " I'm really annoyed with you " tone of voice. I have recieved calls from his teachers and Equine therapist they have noticed this shift to. After reading your post I realized that I have packed raisens three times this week. i am unfamiliar with salicylates and phenols. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with all of the componentes to this approach! I get lost sometimes, thank you to all of you for keeping me informed! Guest guest
I've thought so in the past, too. The way the occasional rages come and go. (They are super rare). But he's never had strep so I haven't dug in too deeply into PANDAS. If you tell me that doesn't matter, I will dig more deeply. My older daughter (21) is just about as crazy as they come and she has always dealt with sore throats her entire life. Sometimes strep, most often times not. Guest guest
You do not have to have strep to get PANDAS. Our kids have out of wack immune systems and when our kids are exposed to strep they have an auto immune reaction and their bodies build up too many antibodies that then attack the brain. Yo should definetly look into PANDAS at www.pandasnetwork.org. It is estimated that one third of ASD kids have PANDAS. The PANDAS behaviors are similar to ASD behaviors. My sons has been sufferring from PANDAS for probably a good 7 years. I had known earlier I could have helped him and things would have not gotten soooooo out of control and dire. Guest guest
Tammy - other viruses & infections can cause PANDAS symptoms. I would have titers (IgG, IgM) tested for mycoplasma pneumonia, HHV6, CMV, EBV, and Lyme. Also some kids can have strep without symptoms, so I would test for strep A titers as well. We were dealing with symptoms like yours for years without explanation. Turns out we are dealing with strep, myco p, Lyme & cmv. Antibiotics, herbals, mito support, etc are slowly but surely turning it all around. Best of luck, RuthSent from my iPhone I've thought so in the past, too. She spent her entire infancy crying and her toddler years trantruming. It was awesome..... -Tammy To: "mb12valtrex " <mb12valtrex > Sent: Sunday, February 5, 2012 3:20 PM Subject: Re: Re: Sudden onset of anger, hyperactivity - phenol or omega 3s?? It's been of those weeks that feel like we're taking one step forward and two steps back. argggggg. Guest guest
We've done the DNASE-B antibody and the antistrepolysin (which I know can mean absolutely nothing) and HHV6 which showed positive only for IgG. I have a nephew who was CLASSIC pandas as a child. (Intense rage, tics, OCD,tourettes, hospitalizations ....). He's grown now and happy and healthy with no symptoms now for many many years. Naturally, he never received a PANDAS dx, but in my heart, I know that's what it was. Deep down and for many reasons, I suspect herpes viruses are lurking but I will revisit the PANDAS website in case I'm missing something. We are actually going to do SCIA's panel, and that covers just about everything. You guys are the best. -Tammy To: "mb12valtrex " <mb12valtrex > Sent: Sunday, February 5, 2012 3:59 PM Subject: Re: Re: Sudden onset of anger, hyperactivity - phenol or omega 3s?? Guest guest
,May I ask how you have treated your sons PANDAS?..Also if with antibiotics, have you done any chelation with? Thanks,SandiSent from my iPad You do not have to have strep to get PANDAS.
