Guest guest
Dr. Swank lived to the age of 96, and always followed his own dietaryadvice; he had his own theories--"The Swank Diet for MS"--and his wife, also no health problems, followed the same diet and outlived him--they were the same age.I saw Dr. Swank in 1956, and on until my husband and I moved to theBay Area here near San Francisco. When I came back, after Hans' death(cancer) to work in Pendleton, Oregon (Eastern Oregon), I then went toOHSU (The original University of Oregon Medical School was foundedin part by one of my grandfathers and great-grandfathers.) Now newly named:Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Swank was diagnosing me (accuratelyas it turned out) on the basis of my first Optic Neuritis episode in my left eye. When I returned to Oregon, the MS Clinic there was headed by Dr. DennisBourdette, who was wonderful, but of course they had MRIs by then, CTscans, and he also helped me with my epilepsy, due to my premature birthwith hycrocephaus of prematurity. OHSU has the only hospital I have everliked. I still miss it, but I do live here, 75 yards south of Berkeley! To: MSersLife Sent: Fri, November 19, 2010 3:13:25 PMSubject: Kate.....Re: question about spasms Hi Kate,.......yes I saw him about 4 times and because I didn't have health insurance I had to pay out of pocket, and he was very spendy. I liked the idea that he wasn't opposed to prescribing pharmaceutical medicines as well as alternative meds. He had his own theories of how to treat MS, and wrote articles and books about it. I was told because he didn't do double blind studies his "theories" were not recognized as valid by the medical communities. But he had over 2000 patients that he treated with special diets and cod liver oil, and one of my friends said she did feel better when she followed it. He also told me that people who were dx'ed with Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia syndrome actually had MS. I don't know about that, but they do share many of the same symptoms. Many autoimmune illnesses have overlapping symptoms and I wouldn't be surprised if they are all caused by the same thing, but are manifested as different diseases in people. Just my theory! :-) Hugs from Jackie in Oregon Subject: RE: question about spasmsTo: mserslife Date: Friday, November 19, 2010, 7:20 AM Oh yes, I have been on Baclofen for awhile. I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better with the reduction. Great news! SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
