Guest guest
Hello wise parents! Few simple questions: 1. How often do you rotate probiotics, if at all? 2. For those who have used saccharomyces boulardi, what is the longest time you've had your child stay on it? What was the max dose? Brand? Do you think it helped? My little guy has been on Klaire therbiotic complete (2x/day) and s. boulardi (increasing the dose slowly, now on 6 capsules of Klaire) for a while now. He has major yeast issues and we still see what I think is die-off every time we increase the s. boulardi. While I think this combo helped him, recently I've become worried that it is irritating him. For example, what if what we think is die-off, is actually irritation from this high dose of s. boulardi? I'm thinking of pulling all probiotics/supplements for 1-2 weeks and starting over. However, his gut is fragile and I'm concerned about taking away the probiotics and s. boulardi. Thoughts? We already try to do low carb diet and are gfcf. Thank you, wise journeyman. -Sylvia
Guest guest
in my experience die off usually gets better after a week..if the symptoms are not improving after a week i would cut out the supp. i remmember i had my son on therabiotic and after two weeks he was bloated and miserable..die off? maybe but i dont think so ..i then tried him on culturelle he did really good and i could see the changes in his stool... if your confused what supps are the culprit then I would cut out all supps and slowly every couple days add new one. then note down all reactions.. Guest guest
Hi Sylvia.Just my opinion from personal experience here -- I would do a comprehensive stool analysis (if money allows) before starting a probiotic. The single biggest mistake I made was to start using a general probiotic when I already had overgrowth in a strain that was in a general probiotic. I really needed to target certain strains to balance gut flora because I had overgrowth in the bifidos strains (which leads to biofilm) and no growth in the lacto strains (which fight yeast). By giving a general probiotic, I was just feeding the biofilm beast...and biofilm's a real pain to get rid of. If money allows...of course, money's a big thing with all of us because anything to do with ASD ain't cheap...a stool analysis will let you target certain strains and let you know what the gut flora looks like before you start feeding it. Feeding it with strains that already have overgrowth makes it a pain in the butt to go back two steps to fix the problem that was caused by something that was given that shouldn't have been given. Not saying it can't be fixed if you didn't supplement the right strains but it's just a pain in the butt. Hello wise parents! Few simple questions: 1.
