You can review the chart of potassium content per calorie of various foods at: http://members.tripod.com/~charles_W/table3.html Most other foods are hard to eat to get that much potassium or also contain a lot of vitamin k which we affibers want to keep at a stable level. To compare, a whole baked potato has about the same amount of potassium but it's much easier to drink a couple glasses of V-8 than two baked potatoes, and far fewer calories in the V-8. The MDR for potassium is about 2.5 grams/day but some feel about double that is good for the heart, arthritis, etc. The reason for low salt is that some people feel that you should take in more potassium per day than salt. Salt isn't good for blood pressure for most. This information is primarily for those of us who feel that extra taurine, magnesium and potassium help with afib and/or ectopic beats. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply. I have some V8 but I didn't see any brand that said low sodium. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place or something. > > > Date: 2006/05/01 Mon PM 12:55:08 EDT > To: AFIBsupport > Subject: Re: V8 Juice > >

Maybe I was looking in the wrong place or something. It comes with the same label but with a light green stripe across it that says low sodium. I get mine at Safeway or Albertson's in CA. Knudsen also makes a low salt veggie juice. If you have a Trader Joe's around, they have low sodium vegetable juice that tastes better for about a third less cost. Guest guest
A word of caution with taking high amounts of potassium. If you are on an antihypertensive in the ACE group (ramapril, lisinopril, benazepril etc) or an ARB (losartan, valsartan etc), or spironolactone...these medications inhibit the kidneys from getting rid of extra potassium and hyperkalemia (high potassium) can be just as toxic as low potassium...this holds true if you have renal insufficiency even if you aren't on one of these medications. .... isparrow@... wrote: Would someone please explain to me the benefit of V8 juice in relation to Afib and why it is a benefit ?
