Thought you might like to know about this dog and his story. I especially like the ending ........ The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord.. He's huge - part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did. Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour in Iraq . His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'. The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus.. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped. He's the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you're ok, he's a big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. Enjoys the company of cats.. Guest guest
Brutus and one soldier are alive and have gotten the Medal of Honor - not since Vietnam have they awarded a Medal of Honor to a live recipient - sometimes we forget what they are doing over there they are still serving in Iraq also God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there. Guest guest
Unfortunately, this great story about Brutus.. isn't true.. http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/brutus.asp Brutus is actually "Spike" a sdale, AZ police force retiree.. Though the Pet 10 Commandments brought tears to my eyes, when thinking about (well any critter really) but at that point my Cujo-Velcro-Butter Brown.. and how I could never ever leave him alone, no matter how much it hurt, on his final journey.. Guest guest
Anne, the point to the story is still true of Spikeand of many, many other heroic dogs--and besides,we were treated to all those handsome photos.I would not call it a "goof," rather a misnomer.Love to you, Anne,nP.S. Reminds me of my mother, who raised Kerry Blue Terriers for show; she gave one to me when I was about 6years old. She had named it "Terry," but kept calling thepoor little thing "Kerry!" Dog was heroic and loveableall the same, no matter by which name. M.~

Guest guest
I did some research and found out more about guard dogs - it also reminded me of the last AIDS class I did at Fort Sill - it was out at the K 9 facility - I didn't get introduced to the dogs but the handlers were concerned about their dogs - well blood is blood - that meant a lot to me God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there. Guest guest
I'm sorry Anne.. but I just had to look that one up.. Because the puppy in the picture just didn't look at all that vicious.. and unfortunately, if he had done what was claimed to have been done by him... I suspect that he'd have never made it back to civilian life to receive his award.. And very much the muttley lover (be he just bred or purebred).. I would have been having to send off a letter of probably not too many nice words to whomever was in charge of training this guy to be something that they would "put down" after doing exactly what he had been trained to do.. But as I said in the earlier post.. the rest of the post was absolutely fabulous.. and the picture of the doggie & the baby was priceless!
