Guest guest
Where are the best places to live for those with Autism? We are looking to move within the next year or 2 (maybe sooner if a job opportunity for my husband presents itself in Computer/Programming/Security and/or college faculty field)...so we are pondering where the best places are (in terms of homeschooling, healthcare, Autism support, and most important tolerant/accepting attitudes within the community) for a child with Autism, including once the child is an Adult. Our daughter is sensitive to heat, so overly hot climates are not an option. We are focusing on places in the United States, but if there is a place outside the US, feel free to share that too...it might spark an idea for us. Places that are already being considered are land, Pennsylvania, Delaware and western Massachusetts. Please give your insights on these states and/or other favorites of yours, include why you like the place and be specific about what town/county in a state that you like. Thanks in advance for your insight! --- (Son-Rise Program Mom) http://www.WhoAmIWhyAmIHere.com Navigating Through Life, Parenthood, Autism, Passion, Philosophy & Creative Expression
Guest guest
HiPA is great they have good programs, as well as Boston. Boston have an excellent autism program you might want to check that out. I myself looking into PA for my son since they have the Amish farms there and we spent the summer there and he did great with all the pure fresh food. He even tolerated the milk which he has allergies. I guess he has allergies not to the milk but other junk is in it. Good luck to you guysTUnde Where are the best places to live for those with Autism? Guest guest
A few months ago, I was ready to move the family to Minnesota because the state covers 40 hours a week of ABA therapy, but the rest of the family did not go along and my neurotypical daughter started crying and researching being emancipated from us so she could stay in Colorado. So, we all stayed put. At the time, Kristy Oldham from the Lovaas Institute in Minnesota connected me with some families who had moved to Minnesota just for that purpose. I have her number still posted at my desk: .
Guest guest
We live in Hamburg, NY which is in Erie County. We are a suburb about 15 minutes south of Buffalo. The services here are absolutely remarkable! When I tell people what we are getting for my daughter they can't believe it. My daughter just turned 3 so she will be transitioning from receiving services from the county to our school district. We live in the Frontier Central School District which is wonderful in dealing with children with special needs. Here is what my daughter's schedule looks like for when the school year starts Sept. 7th. All of this is free and at our home. These teachers all have NYS teacher certification and master's degree. They work for Summit Education Services. Monday - Friday: 8:30 -11:30 special education teacher #1 12:00 - 1:00 speech teacher 1:00 - 4:00 special ed teacher #2 Mon., Wed., Fri. 5:00 - 5:30 OTTues., Thurs. 5:00 - 5:30 PTWe also have a school psychologist who visits us once a week to check on my daughter's programs and to work on feeding with us. (My daughter only eats baby food.)There are several colleges in the area and Geico is always hiring and is a great company to work for. Good luck on your journey!Carolyn Where are the best places to live for those with Autism?
