Guest guest
Hi! It's been a while since I've posted. For those who don't know (or don't remember) me, I went NC with Nada at the end of my second year of college. I just graduated (early), I'm almost done with my U.S. citizenship paperwork, I'm trading childcare for rent with a wonderful family, next semester I'm sticking around to take classes that will help me get into a better grad school, and I'm moving in with a really good friend. Things are looking up! I just found out through the family grape-vine that my Nada has given up on her New York City dreams and is moving back to Canada. On one hand, it's scary to think that I'll be the only member of my family left in this country, but now I have a whole country to myself! I don't have to avoid certain areas because my nada " might be living/visiting/working there " and so on and so forth. This is such a symbolic liberation for me, but I don't know why it seems to affect me more than any of the legal separations/protections or life milestones I've had since NC. I suppose I don't have to know... -Maia
Guest guest
Maia, I can understand why having the country to yourself affects you more than the other milestones. As long as a nada is (or might be) nearby, there's always the possibility of her showing up to cause trouble. No amount of legal separation is enough to take away the fear of what she might do. My sister went NC with our mother several years ago. I sometimes have nightmares about our nada trying to use me to find her when she is visiting or when we meet somewhere relatively nearby.
