He seemed to have trouble with the mb12 at first until we added the

folinic acid. After that, I didn't notice a problem with them until

recently (possibly.) It seems like he has worse days after having the

shots, but I don't know if that is just a coincidence. So I didn't give

him his shot on Sunday and stopped the folinic, too. He had a fine day

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I thought I would try the shot again

yesterday and gave him the folinic thinking he would have the shot at

night. I forgot the shot last night. Now he just had the absolute

worst morning he has had in a long time.

folinic acid or mb12, what did it look like? What type of symptoms did

your child have? Did any of you find that the shots/folinic were good

for awhile and then became a bad thing? My son has a double mutation

(one of each type)of MTHFR, so he is supposed to need the mb12 support

for the rest of his life.

Now Brand. 200mg's/twice a day.Love the stuff. Told my sister- she immediately put her son on it.He is ASD - his symptoms more prominent than my son's. What a difference! He was at my house all day today.UNbelievable is all I can say. He was connected, engaged. When he addressed me, he actually CARED if he had my attention or not. That is HUGE! He let me sing one of his favorite songs when normally, he would ask me to stop. Him and my son were upstairs for a good hour giggling, laughing...just being boys. It was awesome I could go on and on. I'll keep you guys posted. Friday will be two weeks for us.

But, Toni, can I ask you one more thing (and I noticed this on the LOD group, too)...why do you use B6 and P5P?

Oops, never mind...I missed Toni saying she uses 200 mg.

and Toni,How much mag citrate do you guys use?

Hi is and Cathy -

I found for my son that high doses of B12 without Magnesium caused hyperactivity, found when pulled it, same thing as is, he lost energy and focus. Added Magnesium (Natural Calm) and wha la! Magic!

I had read that Magnesium activates B Vitamins. Since then I have gotten a B-Complex on board and I also supplement magnesium. As of now, we supplement once every three days. My son is now recovered, but still needs some supplements. Magnesium helps 'calm' the body, also leads to more focus. (We also do Feingold, and somewhat lo-oxalate (more like med oxalate)) He is doing AWESOME!

My Brother, Rob (27) I did the same for, and I found for him (very high doses of B Complex and Magnesium) also helped his executive function. He can receive multiple directions, and not have to get me to repeat them over and over (and over..) There is more of a 'connect' than ever. While B12 (we did shots and nasal, and now I am doing capsules) was a amazing step for us, I felt like something was 'missing' -- this is what it was for us. (Rob is also Feingold and low oxalate, also works GREAT for him.)

We too do daily 'anti-inflammatory' in the form of juicing (celery, ginger, Holy Basil, pineapple) and for Rob, green tea. (My husband had picked up at a garage sale for .25 cents " Beyond Aspirin " Newmark and Schulick, and it's all about great anti inflammatory foods and herbs, but cautions about using things that isn't a 'whole' food or herbs, because nature creates these foods perfectly having all the compounds to solve an issue. Juicing solved this problem.

I hope this helps...

ps. yes Toni, we need to chat!

That is awesome.  I love carnosine.  We're just taking a break from it right now as I'm just starting a few things.  I might try carnosine again at lower doses.

I don't give a multi to my son, he is hyper sensitive to b12. Both he and I have really high b12 levels when tested, not sure why. When I take b12, I can take 5000mcg easy and no ill side effects, feel more energetic but not maniacally so. I can give my daughter mega doses as well. My son gets the mouthy side effect from even the smallest amount... I have an iron pill (we are anemic, he and I, I think we both lack intrinsic factor and cant use the b12 we intake very well, or something?) so anyway, this iron pill has 40mcg of b12 and within a few mins of having it, he is finger sucking and then doing this for hours. Last year when I gave him a mega dose, he was licking the karate mat in class, and completely inattentive and aggressive for over a week... he was like some other kid and it was disturbing.

So anyway, I would like to get to the point where I can use AOR advanced B multi so I wouldnt have to give so many diff ones. For vit A, we do high dose vit a protocol every so often without the supporting daily doses, and vit E I have in drops but I would like to start supp'ing that more often. Oh, we also use high vitamin butter oil at night, I think that has vit A and K and D maybe in it??

Hi Toni,

From your posting it seems like you are using all the vitamins separately and your son is not on multivitamins. I was wondering how you supplement other vitamins like vitamin A, E, etc. I am currently using vitaspectrum but I read an article by Dr Woody Mcginnis and the doses he recommends for B vitamins are not there in vitaspectrum. After reading your post I also am getting inclined towards using individual supplements. Also you mentioned supplementing both B6 and P5P. Could you please elaborate on that. Can't we just use a bigger dose of P5P instead of adding vit B6??

Thanks

For Jimmy - 44 inches tall, 45lbs (he is fully recovered) I use 1 teaspoon of

Natural Calm in the morning (when I remember), and he still gets epsom salt

baths. (I also use the vitamin C tabs for chloramines in our water...) (and has

he grown!!)

For Rob - 5'6, 125lbs, (he is working on it!) He gets 2 teaspoons in the

morning, and two at mid afternoon. (4 teaspoons total per day) - again, Rob is

making excellent progress. His recent achievement is he got out of the car, ran

in and purchased chicken for me (I was in the car)...two years ago, Rob used to

take off my shoes because he walked so close behind me and was terrified that I

would abandon him somewhere - NEVER left me...now, he can't wait for me to

leave. LOL!

This has helped with any anxiety and stress they were having. Rob still gets

red ears and cheeks when he falls off the Feingold wagon, so far, Jimmy has not.

We have added back strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, and blackberries with

success. I haven't tried any others. I really like him the way that he is

now...so I am a little gun shy...

I'm not sure that I'm terribly crazy about the Advanced Multi B from AOR.  We've been using it for a while now, and I'm finding that it doesn't give us much of everything else we need if we do the max amount of P5P that Maia can take.  She's got a hair-trigger dumping mechanism and 1 cap gives her about 33 mg of P5P but not enough of everything else.  33 mg of P5P just makes her dump constantly.  Hell, 25 mg makes her dump constantly.  When I had her on 50 mg, holy crap, she'd dump every single day for weeks on end, rest for 2 days, and then the dumping would start again.  I know that's probably not a bad thing but it's kind of hard on her body to be dumping that much all the time and I'd kind like to give her a break from it.

Maia's having a little bit of emotional regulation issues in the past few weeks...I'm suspecting this is from copper.  The Zinc Balance looks pretty interesting. I think I'm going to try the Natural Calm mag too.  She needs something calming but I hesitate to supplement taurine because after I got her amino acids profile back, her taurine looks quite good -- not too high or low.

I don't give a multi to my son, he is hyper sensitive to b12. Both he and I have really high b12 levels when tested, not sure why. I know carnosine just rocks.  I decided to really stop it on Friday, when I got Maia's amino acids test back and carnosine actually looked really good, too.  However, I'll note that I was supplementing at very high doses for many months (since November last year).  We were doing two doses of 500 mg per dose daily since November and, in July, her level got to 350 (anything below 500 is good in the reference range).  I was doing two doses of 500 mg because of her global apraxia.

She's in about the 80th percentile for carnosine, and maybe that's about enough for a while -- keep in mind I had stopped carnosine for about 3 weeks before running the amino acids profile.  But really, it did take that long and those were high doses, and, really, it only started to work after several massive oxalate dumps in the beginning when we went LOD.

I might wait some months before I'll start it again and put her on a dose of 200 mg/day.  At the doses she needed, it ain't a cheap supplement, so no tears from me about stopping it for a while.  We were just blazing through the carnosine for a while.

Dude, made my week! The thought of bring 3 kids in the grocery store for one

item was giving me ticks just thinking about it...Rob stepped up to the plate

and offered, I about fell out of the car. He has never taken that kind of

initiative. NEVER. So...something is definitely working itself out...the

confidence is really coming out, and although he has never purchased anything,

he asked for help. Rob has never asked for help from a stranger. So it was a

trifecta for me - initiative, independent tasking, and asking for help...yeah!!!

My son did poorly on these prior to us switching our focus to parasites. I think they are great food for parasites and when in abundance, feeding them was bad news. We are seeing great benefits from 5mthf and magnesium now that our parasite load is down.Caryn

I've been following this thread with great interest, but this post really hit

home. We have been giving my ds mb12 shots and folinic for over a year, but on

his most recent blood test, he had an odd reading that suggested b12 or colic

acid deficiency. I'm leaning more and more towards doing a parasite cleans.

Just sooooooo grossed out :(

Well, does it help to keep in mind that parasites are anything that are

dependent upon a host - in this case us? So, yeast is a parasite, strep is a

parasite, etc. Biomed moms (and dads) fight parasites everyday! :)

You don't have to look for visible specimens if you don't want to. Haha. I am

not a very squeamish person and am very matter-of-fact about things, but it does

turn my stomach a bit to dig through poo and I didn't enjoy looking at my

hubby's floating worm (or the second one he wanted to show me today.)

:)

You make a good point. I also sort of figured that even if we don;t have any

actual worms (I'm dreaming, right) at least it will help with yeast.

Hahahah!!! Desperate times, desperate measures...Has looked at your OATs and are you doing B6? We have had the best response to a good balance of Bs and magnesium. We just had to find the right doses.

Ah, the right balance -- the root of all of our struggles here...balance is so hard to achieve.  I'm fighting copper-zinc balance and now B6 and mag.  And we're going through an oxalate dump.

Toni,When a person dumps oxalates do they pee noticeably more frequently? Heyward has been doing this since Friday, but he does not have UTI. He really eats nothing high in oxalates, but I know from your posts the body can make it's own. Thanks, Sent from my iPhone

Yes urinary frequency is a sign. I actually had a urine test last year apparently during a dump (yearly exam) and it showedUTI / bacteria and oxalate crystals. I didn't find out about it till a month after the fact (stupid doctor's office)

so it was left untreated, self-limiting/cured on its own.Does your son consume a lot of vitamin C? It converts to oxalate.

No, it's weird but almost every high oxalate food he dislikes. Even chocolate and peanutbutter. I have to woo him into taking those yummy sugar laden vitamin C candies!I am going to ask Owens to look at his OAT.Sent from my iPhone
